Well, im curious in general about when and when not to use the flash i'm getting.

I don't think it comes with a manual of any sort so i'm not sure what the guide number is and i'd like to know how to adjust my aperture according to it.

Did a quik Google search for you. Didn't locate a manual, but did find this: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. The trigge voltage is 6.2. If you plan to use it on a current EOS digital, you're risking your camera.

Im actually using it on a AE1 Program, so i think im fine.
