Taken on Saturday as we were walking through the Standard Chartered Bank Building in Central, Hong Kong. This is a narrow, almost hidden passageway to the street -- totally clad in granite with a mirror to let you know who's coming.

Sorry, doesn't do much for me. I'm not an 'abstract' photo person but maybe this is a good abstract shot. I would like to have seen a little more in the photo to get a better sense of whats going on -- or -- zoom into the mirror leaving some of the granite edges, shades and colour in the shot.

I like it, although the irregular shadow detracts a bit from the linear forms. Well done Don, how have you been?

Neil... it was worth posting just to touch base with you again. I've given up most of my challenge and forum posting for a while to focus on adding to my website. Doesn't mean I don't think of everyone though. I'll be back when I have the site updated and will perhaps participate a bit more -- these things tend to run in cycles. :lol:

Hi... thanks for the observation. I just posted it as a way to let people know I'm alive and thinking of them. I've been fine, been busy. After a few months of lethargy towards my website, I'm furiously processing and coding a gallery on the tsunami. I hope to have it finished within a week or two and will post a link when it's finished.

Thank you... I am definitely a "found" photographer, shooting whatever falls in front of my eye rather than setting something up. It matches my lazy personality. :lol: One of the pleasures of digital photography for me is that I generally have my camera with me -- upping the odds I might actually capture something -- and I've got a 2GB card in my G2 which allows me to shoot as many as I want -- increasing the chance something might actually turn out.

In these two cases, however, I took only two shots each.

Now this pub shot I really enjoy. Don't get me wrong, the first is a good shot... the lines, shadows, etc. Just not my cup of tea. However, the pub stairs are great. The grain of the wood with lines leading horizontal, diagonal, vertical is interesting. The colours of wood, from dark cherry to light oak and the green walls is great. I especially like the framing and the reflection.

I like the second shot mostly because it gives a sense of direction: wanting to go down and see what's around the corner.

I have to say I am very interested in your images after the tsunami... I'm guessing that you will have put a very different angle on things....

I am sure I fell down those stairs once, if not, I did in all the other Irish pubs in HK. The bank shot did nothing for me and I was wondering how I could slate it, then reading this thread and seeing that people liked it I went back...and back....and back again. Now I have decided the reason I could not slate it was obvious....because I like it. It takes a while to sit back and appreciate it, but after that while I realised it was a cool shot. Now, about that pub...........
