They can't all be hummingbirds... I tried my best to PS this one, but that highlight is blown for sure. Thanks to everyone for their hummingbird comments. It was a good day!

PS. Anyone know what kind of bird this is? I seem to remember him/her making a lot of noise and being VERY quick and skittish.

Maybe a Cactus Wren.

I think it's a lovely photo. The colours on the stems and the sharp spikes set off the softness of the bird nicely. It's also a very pretty bird and the colourings are captured very well.

Man, I love this shot! Look at its feathers, this bird is GORGEOUS!
Thanks for sharing, Pb.

The highlights don't bother me at all. That's a lovely shot of a good looking bird.

I agree with other posts...good photo. Was curious what was in the background to make it so dark? Whatever it is makes it look good.

I got lucky with that one. Somewhat obviously, the sun is coming from the right (and slightly behind the bird). There was a line of trees and scrub brush directly behind and also to the left of the bird. I am shooting slighty from the right. ...So it's the "dark side of the trees" and the shadows that they created on the rocks/dirt behind the bird.

Excellent! I don't see any blown highlights that detract from this image ... well done.
