My previous camera was a Finepix S602Z. I used the Vivitar 283 flash with it religiously. I never used the built-in flash after getting the 283.

I've used the 283 on my 20D with good results. After all my experience with the 602 and 283 I'm pretty good at doing it all manually.

I'm considering getting an ETTL compatible flash for the 20D but am wondering if it is worth it. I've read some people say that there are issues getting good exposures when letting it go full automatic and that you are better off using manual.

Should I spend the money on an ETTL flash if my main reason to get it is so I can use the flash in auto most of the time... or should I save my money, buy some lenses and continue using the 283?

Again.. the only reason I want a new flash is so I don't have to mess around with aperature and flash settings when taking shots, other than that I love the 283.

Thanks

I use the Sigma DG 500 Super II on my 20D and leave it on Ettl auto all the time, no problems and nice piccies.

Depends on what you photograph and if you have the option to look at the histogram and adjust the manual controls...

Also the wireless slaves are nice too.
