I am a new owner of a used d30 and am haviing difficult autofocussing in P Tv Av mode. I want to set the camera in RAW format but I cannot autofocus using both my canon 28-105 or the 70-200 IS2.8 even tho the lens AF switch is on. In automatic mode the camera focusses fine. What am I doing wrong?? I tried AI SErvo and Single Shot mode, same result Focusing point selection is set to automatic and evaluative metering. The 70-200 makes a clunking sound when trying to focus. The 28-105 just does nothing. Any help would be appreciated. What is the diff between P mode and sports mmode that would affect the autofocus?

Check the cameras custom functions. When you use any of the "Canon Creative" modes, like the Sports setting, or the "green box", all custom functions are bypassed.

One of the custom functions, allows you to move the autofocus function to the * button on the back of the camera. I actually used the camera that way for quite a while...it can be very handy. Anyway, make sure that setting is set to the "0" or default position to make the camera autofocus on 1/2 shutter button press like normal.
