This was taken soon after I purchased my EOS300d. It was at Taronga Zoo (Sydney, Australia). They have a viewing section at the side of the pond, which lets you see from water level (thus the DOF).

The thing I don't like about this photo, is that it made me realise how lazy the auto-focus can make photographers. The ducks back is in focus, rather than it's head, and by rights, attention should be drawn to the eye, according to the composition of the shot, therefore it should be in focus.

I used to have a Canon F1 (which was about the same age as me), and it had 3 settings; Focus, Aperture & Shutter speed. So it made me work. Now more often than not, the auto settings on the 300d are good enough.

Other than that, I love this photo.

Shooting Mode: Program AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ): 1/250
Av( Aperture Value ): 6.3
Metering Mode: Evaluative
Exposure Compensation: 0
ISO Speed: 1600
Lens: 55.0 - 200.0mm
Focal Length: 200.0mm
