its a 52mm and im pretty sure it says this on a the cap, or lens body... lol

it will say 52 then a O with a / through it (or what ever the number may be for what ever lens)

I don't have the lens with me. I'm ordering this stuff right now and yes it's 52mm.

I have a 52-58mm converter permantly on mine, means I currently only have one set of filters (Three out of four of my lenses are 58mm), and I can just swap around lens caps when working, instead of finding the right one all the time.

Unfortunalty my next lens purchases won't adhere to this rule, most probably 62mm or 77mm ;)

Ah, the dreaded 77mm lens, mine arrives tomorrow :)

I wouldn't bother with a polariser for the 50mm F1.8, mine was checked by Canon and is working as it should, but has trouble focusing accurately.

Lead me not into temptation, for I can find B&H myself.

Hahahaha, Tim, that's the best sig line I've seen lately !

Yup, 52mm. Just don't sink too much cash into 52mm filters as most of the better lenses you'll move on to are larger (58mm, 67mm, 77mm, etc) so the suggestion of a 58mm with a step down is a very good one.
