West Kirby is on the Dee Estuary and is an internationally renowned site for birds. It also has a man made marine lake for sailing and wind surfing. I used to sail here as a kid, but as you will see from this the water was trying to get out last night! :)

Thnaks Sandy. Yes it is - that's a marine lake (man made). When I was a kid we managed to sail right over the top of that wall in my dad's racing boat!!

WOW! Man made lake, well than in the 2nd shot I thought that the sail boats were high and dry and waiting for the tide to come in. Are they in the water and just leaning due to the wind?

Sandy the boats are high and dry. The man made lake sits on the Dee Estuary and the boats were on the river and so when the tide was out they were stranded. The lake is mostly used for small boats and windsurfing.

The Dee is a very interesting river, I'll try and find some links for you. It used to be a very busy shipping lane but has slowly silted up and now is an internationally important bird habitat.

The Wirral (where this is) is a penninsula and so has plenty of other water to deal with! :)
