Some of that is LOL and some are unfortunately true. I stopped my subscription to Outdoor Photographer last year after I realized that it was ~50% advertising pages, and that several times they had run practically the same article 2 or 3 times during the year.
The only mag I buy these days is the occasional copy of Nature Photographer off the shelf, as it is mostly pictures and unique articles (everything is written by the subscribers).

My personal favorite is the full page article explaining all about the other articles you'll be reading.

I honestly can't say I'd buy a photo magazine  It's just not worth it.

I bought one mag (Popular Photography) at a bookstore, and read it front to back.
The rest are the same issue with a different cover.
You want to see the most repetitive magazine in existence? Cosmopolitan.

A few months ago I subscribed to Outdoor Photography on a really, really cheap offer.
It may have been worth the $4 I spent on the sub, but certainly no more. Same stuff every issue.
Definitely no renewal.

I've flipped through a few in the newsagents and was horrified at how similar they all were... and how little interesting information was hidden away under mounds of garbage. Internet learning and research ftw. :D Having said that... I'm happy to buy quality magazines - some of the magazines that are mostly full of fine art images with a handful of interviews regularly find their way onto my bookshelf... always nice to see some different creativity and get some ideas.

I have found these forums to be more than enough information. I'm really green in photography so these forums have been amazing at giving me exactly what I need. I find that every question I have can be answered right here almost immediately through a search. And if not, I have found many of the members to be very helpful and patient with new peeps who have questions.
The only reason I see to have a photo magazine would be toilet material.

Some of the mags arent too bad - i did subscribe to Digitalphoto mag here -mainly to get a Kata shoulder bag that i was thinking about buying anyway (the sub cost me less than the bag would have!)
I tend to buy them when i want to see a specific product review.
They all do the same rotation of articles though.
