I'll be honest with you, this is going to be my first dslr... Its been a long time passion of mine to look into photography, and this summer i've decided i'm going to do it!

I've been in contact with my local camera company who have offered the following, i'd like to know what people think of the package & if there is anything that is not required, a better brand i should look at, etc..?

Camera: Canon Eos 350D + 18-55mm - £619.00
UV Filter: Hoya SHMC UV 58mm - £27.20
Memory: 1Gb Lexar Pro 80x CF - £90
Storage: Lowpro TLZ-20 - £21.99
Cleaning Kit: Swabs (£19.99) Fluid (£19.99) - £39.98

Hi Aidan,
Welcome to the forum!
The package sounds good to me. I started this passion not too long ago too. You definitely has a nicer package than mine when i first started. The kit lens is a good walkaround lens for the price.
Do u know what u will be shooting mainly? portrait, landscape, wildlife....etc.?

The shooting will be a bit of everything while i learn the basics of the camera... but overall i'd say i'm more of a landscape person... once i have mastered the basics of such a complex camera, i'll be looking at getting a sigma 8mm fisheye to create some amazing 360 x 360 panoramic photographs for interactive tours.

Aidan-

Some folks have been unhappy with their Lexar Pro. Suggest you research it for yourself; here is a good starting point (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50761&highlight=lexar+pro) .

Camera: Excellent choice!
UV Filter: Don't bother with one for the kit lens, it's not worth it. The quoted price is also very expensive for a basic Hoya 58mm. You can get a new Hoya Pro-1 on ebay for less than that.
Memory: Expensive for 1Gb. There's nothing wrong with a mass market Kingston for around £50.
Cleaning kit: Seems pricey. You can get fluid, cotton buds, lens papers and cloth as a kit from Jessops for around a tenner.

... and most likely you won't need it for quite some time.

Best regards,
