Hi

I recently purchased an EOS300D as my first step in to SLR cameras.
The EF-S 18-55 lense that comes with the kit seems very loose. The end part of the lense that moves in and out when the ring is turned (sorry dont know what it is called), it seems very loose with a lot of play. I can move it, from one extreme to the other, about 1/8 inch. Is this right?

Sorry, i should os said. The movement is up and down in relation to the camera body and not in/out.

The kit lens is not of the best build quality, but it shouldn't do that - 1/8 of an inch is quite a lot. I've just tried mine and there is no discernable amount of movement. I'd take it back if you can.

Thanks, i thought that may be the case but being a newb to this i wasnt sure. I should be able to return it with no problem.
