Hey all,
I was having a play around last night with some off camera flash and also some editing in PS after wards.
All comments welcome except for criticism of the model (that would be me, and i'm not the most photogenic person )

The two of the Scotty look kinda wierd and ghostly as a result of the spotlight effect.
The self portrait is more interesting. I think if you move the flash to a position to one side and above, so that the shadows in the face are on a diagonal instead of directly sideways, you will find the effect more interesting and more 3-dimensional.
One of the effects or illusions that we should always be looking for or cultivate is the illusion of 3-dimensionality.

Thanks Robert.
As i mentioned in the post i was mainly after the practice of the post processing. I do see where your coming from with the "ghostly" comment of the dog though.
With the self portrait i didn't have too many options because for this shot i believe i had the flash sitting on the top of the couch pointing at me, not a lightstand so i had very little flexibility with the flash position. I do understand what you are saying though and will definitely keep that in mind for next time.
Thank you again Robert
