Has anyone heard when the new Sigma 10-20 will be available? I am avoiding the Canon 10-22 because of it's inability to be used on my 10D.

I forgot about this lens. It won't work on a MkII.. (at least is not made to) but it will work on the 10D, and likewise for the same reason should actually mount to a MkII.. allowing someone with both ... to at least try it and see ;)

I'm sort of surpised that Sigma is making an APS sized unit with there 12-24mm being the only full frame lens in this ultra/super/duper-wide zoom catoagroy availble.

I reallly really really really wish that someone would put some time/effort into a 10mm or 12mm prime instead of a zoom. Now every company has one of these zooms (in Sigma's case soon to be two) ... and all I want is a prime. It would definitely smaller and lighter.. and it might be faster and cheaper as well.

I'm so torn I really-really have the urg for one of these two lenses.

The Canon or the Sigma, I'm so happy with my Sigma DC I may get the 10-20mm, plus being HSM would completely make this a wonderful lens.

However, any one notice that the Canon is the faster lens? I'm trying to decide if f3.5-4.5 vs 4-5.6 is worth $400.00, plus I'm a bit ticked at Canon for not including the hood on an $800 LENS!!! But I do assume you get what you pay for with Canon, right?

But still I want one of these lenses and I'm not sure I can hold out for the Sigma version, 10mm is tempting me so bad. I love 18mm on the Drebel, 10mm may drive me over the edge.

I also agree a 10mm f2.0 EF-S would be a fantastic Lens! As long as it wasn't a fisheye.

Sigma's website is down now, but if I recall the 10-20mm they have coming is our is a DC lens - their Designed for Digital only (won't go on a 10D or a film camera) But their 12-24mm which I have will go on a 10D and film cameras.

Should be in stores by the end of June according to one guy who asked.

That thread's a good read, about the Tokina 12-24 F4. For $500 it sounds like a nice lens, and I like constant apertures. The Sigma 10-20 is f/4-5.6, which I don't like so much. I'm in the market for a wide zoom as well, i'm just gona wait a bit until I find one I like at a price I like.

It's either the Tokina 12-24 or Sigma 10-20 for me, probably the latter because of its 10mm, HSM/FTM, slightly smaller, and excellent price. The Sigma will basically be a 10mm f4 prime for my usage.

Does anyone else think F5.6 at 20mm is just too little light? The depth of field of these wide lenses on a 20D is huge. Personally I don't take a tripod with me every time I take photos, only occasionally. fStopJojo has a good point that they'll be used mostly at their widest most of the time, so maybe it's not an issue.

That's what the Sigma 20 f1.8 is for...:D I think it's going to be one heck of a lens.

I'd rather have a 10mm prime than a 20mm prime.

Hm. I would think wide angle lenses would be used at narrow f/stops. My 28mm is f/2.8 and I don't mind. I'd shoot architecture with the 10-20 anyway... hm.

DC means 1.6x APS-C sensor, it will work just fine on a 10D (D30/60).
It mounts to my Elan film, it just vignettes at the sides.

Are you waiting for the Canon 1mm f1.0L prime that takes a picture of its self?

I guess it depends on exactly what you are shooting, but USM or HSM focusing seems a little overkill. At the widest angle you will probably get a depth of field from about 5 feet in front of you to infinity. Lock it at infinity and shoot!:D

I am very interested in the Sigma 10-20 for the price. I would like to have a full sensor lens but I don't like the gelatin filter in the only one(Sigma 12-24) available. I love my Sigma 18-125DC and would probably sell it with my body when the time comes. I am just worried I am buying lens that won't work with future bodies that I think will have larger sensors.

You own a Sigma 18-125DC and can't understand why one would want USM or HSM focusing? Sounding like Robocop during AF isn't the best sound for a lens IMO. That said, it's a bargain lens for the price, but still I would prefer an HSM 18-125 DC version.

I think after much thought I'm going to go with the Canon model. The 1.6x should be around for a few years and I know the 10-22mm EF-S won't err99 down the road....on future Canon DSLR's.

I would see the 10-22EF-S as a good pair for the 24-70L not the Sigma 18-125 DC. As such, I plan to build a Canon collection of glass. I like my Sigma, but I'd likely like it on a D70 too?

I definately like USM or HSM. I was referring to the 10-22 or 10-20. With such a wide angle there isn't much need for focusing on subject past 5 or 6 feet. It has such a huge DOF.

My next zoom will have to have USM or HSM.
