Okay, since Longwatcher had to vent...I do too!
For the first time ever during a shoot, we were kicked out by the park ranger this past weekend. Amazing enough, the model was so furious that she told the ranger off, and almost GOT ME a ticket!

Since you have to pay to be in the park... Did you ask the ranger why he threw you out? Even though the park is federal property, it's still public... They can't just throw you out without cause. Also since you paid... Did you ask for a refund?

No, this isn't a "paid park". It was a public park. A very well known one. But there isn't a fee to enter this park.

It isn't a state or national park? ???

I've been dragged out of a media area at a concert before my security is failed to recongnise my stage pass as legit.
Turned out they were badly briefed, they felt so bad I had some free 'assistants' for the rest of the evening: "Do you want me to hold something, can I get you a drink?" :D
Getting kicked out of a park is a little wierd for taking photos, is that a US thing?

No this is just a local city park. And no, no nude photography either.

That was going to be my second question, but I assumed you weren't!
Nothing else wacky going on, next to a government facility or something?
I was taking shots in some bush a few years back near a major unmarked trasmission tower of some sort, lot of keep outs, tresspassers prosecuted etc, kept my distance, but two days later, I had a visit from the Police to find out what I was up to, they got my car licence plate number of a security camera, and noted I had a camera!
At risk of having the black helicopters visit me tonight, for fellow Aucklanders, it was the.... phiztz Transmission Ends.

Bugger getting kicked out of a free park. :(
My only time in trouble with the law, I was outside a Lamborghini dealer in Auckland last year at nighttime., a police car pulled over, and quickly came out to check what I was doing. Said it wasn't advisable to be standing outside the dealership with a camera. (Also had a tripod),
Well he left slowly, but not after taking my plate details.
Which transmission tower? I was once trying to get to the small dome enclosure up Scenic Drive, where the aircraft stuff is in. Couldn't find a way to get in, without jumping over the fence saying security blah blah.

On the hill behind long Bay, now I've done it, black helicopters for sure!

.....................ok, I just waved a torch in the right direction :)
Iv never been kicked out of anywhere, quite the opposite infact. Iv been in a Targa stage, and a cop who recognised me from my Job at the time stoped and gave me a free ride to where I was heading. Full lights and sirens, and making full use of the closed road :D

I have a single experience only :-) I was trying panning once on road right infront of police station. After about 15 mins two cops came over, visibly irritated, asked for my passport/foriegn registration & why i was shooting so many pics & what was I shooting on road :-) I showed them the picture & they left, apparently disappointed ;)

Digital is good that way, no more ripping unexposed film out of the camera, you can actually show them what you have shot!

OK, I just have to tell this: I recently got thrown out of a Pet Smart store for taking pictures of the budgies! No kidding! My wife was shopping in the store, but I had to leave. They wouldn't even let me go get her. I thought about sending her back in to return the stuff she bought, but it just seemed to be too much of a hassle. We'll just go elsewhere in the future.

That I have heard of before, alot of shops are particulary sensitive about people taking shots inside their stores. You could have been the competition stealing all their ideas!

Are you familiar with "Craig Park" in Brea?
I have heard of this happening there... They now charge photographers $150.00. So basically when you go, you cant take a flash frame or anything fancy that would tip them off... Or absorb the $150 from the customer

I just don't understand this concept...these are public parks....

Nice guys those black helicopter guys :D
BTW there is no tower in Long Bay, and if you see one it is your imagination (the black helipoter guys made me understand the difference) in fact I don't think there is even a Long Bay, and I was never here...

Sorry let me try that again:
There is no tower in Long Bay, and if you see one it is your imagination (the black helipoter comrads made me understand the difference) seemingly my humble self don't think there is even a Long Bay, and my humble self was never here.
I definitely feel that it is the considered opinion that, taking everything into account, and weighing up all the pro's and con's, there is a general consensus that, as far as can be known, there is no conclusive answer to this question, as yet.
Big brother is watching you...

Or absorb the $150 from the customerHow is that possible? If it's a public park, you can't just charge someone money for walking in with a camera. At least not in the part of the world where I live...

Beverly Center parkign lot I can see as it is private proptery at night.
Park, Im assuming its the middle of the day I would of told the ranger (nicly) to stop harassing us. As he has no legal basis for kicking your out.
Plus for the craig park in brea, http://www.ocparks.com/craigpark/default.asp?Show=parkrules take that with you and tell whoever comes up to you to polietly "shove it". Legaly you have the right to take pictures of WHATEVER you want. And if its newsworthy wherever you want if your employed / contracted by a news angency.
I had gotten off the phone with my lawyer not 5 min before reading this and I asked her a few of these questions.
p.s. I cant spell and im not gonna fix it as I am running late...
