So this was a while ago now. My hard drive crashed the day I uploaded these pics (and formatted the CF cards) so I was left with about 80% of the shots and only jpegs. I do not do much PP yet as I am still learning. I kniow I need to crop out some Solo cups and water bottles.

This was my first photo pass. Well actually my second, but my first was DMB in 2001 with a film camera. I didn't ask for the pass, it was given to me by Soulive's tour manager when she saw I had an SLR.

There was no photo pit. I was allowed to shoot from one spot on the right and another spot on the left, for the first 3 songs. Backgrounds were boring being just flat black.

All in all it was a great learning experience. 3 songs goes by fast! C&C welcome.

The last one is nice... I saw these guys about 2 months ago, here at an outdoor show behind the Dock Bar in Gulfport. I'd seen them several times before, many years ago when they were the "hot" thing. Well, I think they still have it. Great jam band.

Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me, only an iPhone. I took several shots with it, but nothing that was really worth a damn (any surprise there?) - your shots are great.

Thanks Todd. It seems this section of the forum is the slowest, but I still like some feedback and criticism.

I have seen BT around 40 times and this was my first with a pass. They are a fan friendly band and Gina (their manager) would happily provide you with a pass if you ever wanted to shoot them. If you decide to, let me know as I have her email address.

Thanks again and any more C&C is appreciated.

I still love their "four" album to this day. I first heard of Blues Traveler in high school when this album had just come out.......man, brings back great memories !

I like the images, I like the first one best and the last one is cool as well. Good job CosmoKid. Who is the female on stage with John ? Man that dude has some pipes !

I'm bummed I missed them when they rolled through Alpine, CA on July 10th. Couldn't do it. The wife's birthday party....arrrrgrrrh! :D :D

I'll keep you in mind, if I need a press pass in the future. I'd LOVE to see them live, as I've always thought that's where they would really shine!

As far as the pics....I agree with ToddL that your last pick is probably the best of the lot. 1 of "Big Pop" is also pretty good too. A little slow on 2....and I'd probably crop him at the knees. I think 3 could have been a really nice shot if it weren't for that shadow. 4 could have been a great shot, but it's just a little too blurry for my tastes. 5 seems a little unbalanced on the sides. Not sure if it's the girl with Popper or not.

Which lens(es) were you using, btw?

If this was your first time out, I'd say you had yourself a pretty good evening: [I]Crash burn....when will I learn :D :D :D

He's lost a lot of weight, actually..

Yeah, I'll definitely keep you in mind if I get to see them again, that would be awesome.

Thanks! The female is an Indian singer who was doing some type of Hindi scat with him. She seemed thrilled to be on stage.

2- i thought i nailed the focus on Chan but the blur was a DOF thing. Maybe I am wrong.

3- I kind of liked the shadow in that shot. makes it "moody" - LOL

4 - i agree. i was ticked off i missed it. i was trying to focus on the harmonicas on his hat while he was checking out which key the harmonica he picked up was in. i was trying to change focus points but must have not held down the button properly so when i spinned the wheel i changed the Ap.

I was using some borrowed lenses mostly. i bought an 85 1.8 for the occasion but once i found out I couldn't move, the spot they stuck me in didn't give me enough reach for the 85 so I ended up using the 70-200 2.8 NON IS that I borrowed from a friend. if there was a real pit i think i could have done a bit better with the 85.

Popper had gastro surgery a while back. right after Bobby, their bassist died, if memory serves me right. He lost 200 pounds and was down around 220 for a while. Seems like he gained a little bit back over the years.

I like BT a lot. Not bad shots at all, but most or all can be improved.

A few do have a problem with DOF, OOF, or movement and #3 has a person's head blocking half the bass player.

You pretty much nailed #7, good shot. #5 is great too thanks to the ladie's smiling and emotion it brings to the photo.

On second look, I agree with this. At first, the picture didn't quite 'feel' right....but I agree with Moemoe here about the lady's smiling mixed in with Popper. Nice capture.

7 is still my favorite...but I rather like 5 now.

Some quite okay, some a bit soft. Certainly not bad.

You weren't able to recover the shots off the CF cards? Even if you formatted the card, the images are still there as long as you didn't use the cards afterward...

#3, i dont think it was someone's head to be honest. i love number 5 as it was obvious this wasn't something she normally does and was genuinely excited to be on stage with him.

it ended up being a cluster f***. long story but basically a bunch of the files were corrupted when i recovered them. some wouldn't load, others looked like the picture was cut up and jumbled. others had bands of black through them. i didn't check the images other than seeing they were recovered.
