We tend to think of the sparrow as a "common bird", but it really is quite pretty. I don't know what this particular sparrow is but he (she) seemed quite happy to pose with the lawn as a backdrop.
Actual size
100-400 L

I gathered up my favourite deck chair, a 500ml bottle of Creemore lager, my camera with the 100-400L lens, and my tripod.
Then I sat and waited (and sipped). I was after the grossbeal, but his little fellow landed on a planter, about 12 inches above the lawn so I pointed and shot.
ISO 200 RAW, extracted with Adobe Camera Raw. I set teh image to full sizi in Photoshop CS, cropped it and then I Used Ninja Noise, but it needed precious little. Then I sharpened it a tad with Miranda CPRO and resized it with Miranda Resize. I used Photoshop 'Save for Web' to get the final file size to what it might be.
What was the question again? :)

There is just too man L's in there. Excuse me gotta run to the camera store.
I know that many here think that the ordinary sparrow is not worthy of photographing. I'm sure that you had a good sense of satisfaction after taking this. It is a very good shot.

Thanks for the kind words Sheldon (and the rest of you too), you are quite right, I have learned a new respect for that which seems commonplace, once captured in a nice image they become quite special don't they...
This photography business can be quite enlightening if you let it get to you.
