Which Flash to Buy

I just bought the Canon Digital Rebel XT, and I want to get a new flash for on-camera, to trigger the 420 EX off camera. The guide number is not that important, as most shots will be well within the capabilities of even the 420. I am looking at three flashes

550 EX
580 EX
Sigma EF 500 DGSuper

If I am not mistaken, all three can serve as master, but only the 580 is ETTL II, whereas the other two are ETTL. If this is the only, or main difference, is there any advantage of one over the other? The prices are considerably different:

Sigma = $239
550 EX = $299
580 = $400 plus

ETTL-II is NOT built into the 580EX. However, it is ETTL-II compatible, as are the other flashes you mentioned. All 4 of these flashes are will work with your Rebel XT in ETTL-II mode.

Do you have a suggestion on the search string I should use. I too am new to the forum and looking for the same information for my Rebal XT.

I have tried a number of different searches and all have turned less then desirable results.
