Greetings All,
I could use some help with image size vs download time. I'm not sure what most people have as far as connection types and how long people are willing to wait for an image to download. Myself, I'm stuck with dial-up at 28.8 on a good day! And related to image size is quality; smaller size, less quality. At first I had full-size images on my site and then went back and reduced them to a max width of 1280. Any advice would be great!

Hi Todd

Possibly the best compression for the Web is 640 pixels - this usually fills the screen and you don't have to scroll along - as I did with your image. Also it cuts down on download times.

Todd,

You could also try making a smaller thumbnail that people click on to open the full image if they like the smaller one or even offer them a variety of sizes say 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 and 1600 x 1200.

Sheila & Jamie-
Thanks for the replies, I'll leave images at 1280 for a little while and see how that works. Any smaller and the quality just isn't worth uploading. I'll give the site about 12 months and that will probably be the end of it if I still can't get access at the tracks and still suffer shooting from the general spectator areas.
