How do I get this effect with night shots where only a section of the vehicle is light?
Any suggestions?
Is this mainly post-processing?

I think a lot of it has to do with flagging the lights.

Black studio & an overhead flat would be one way. Like this one:

You could try putting some light high up on a wall.
Sorry, but If you want to show images that you haven't personally shot, or other material, just post a link to it as there are © issues?

Oops; easy to tell I'm still a newb.
I just saved those on my computer; it was quicker for me to find that way too.
DisrupTer911; what exactly do you mean by flagging lights?
So, PhotosGuy, what is the trick with keeping the rest of the surrounding area from being light up?

Keep light off the surrounding area? "flagging lights" means putting something between the stray light & the background. You could also put something matt black between the lens & the car to hide a lighted area from the camera.

if you don't use flash, find an area with a spot light. It usually only works well with bright and white cars. If you're shooting a black car, a bright parking lot is your best choice
