Hey Guys,
does canon still manufacture Canon Speedlite 430EX speedlights? or do they only make the Canon Speedlite 430EX II now? its just that ive seen a seller on ebay selling Canon Speedlite 430EX new for a good price but am questioning how old the stock could be. If they are not making Canon Speedlite 430EX anymore how long ago were they discontinued?

canon does not produce the I version of the 430 anymore. if you can get a new one for a decent price, go for it.

The 430EX was first introduced in March 2005. The 430EX II came out about 1 year ago. They probaby stopped making the older model at that time. What is the difference in price right now between the two ?
Since you have a 50D (one of the newer Digic III or IV cameras 40D, 50D, XSi, XS, 5D mkII, etc that support the in-camera flash menu), I would recommend you get the newer flash to go with it.
Using the in-camera flash menu is so much easier and might even give you a greater understanding of flash photography.

If that isn't enough, here are a few more reasons:
1) Metal Hotshoe
2) Quick release mechanism
3) Silent recycle
4) Faster recycle
5) FEC adjusted in 1/3 stop increments
6) Nine Custom Functions (vs 6 on 430EX)

How much are they selling it for? The 430ex hovers around $200 USD.
