continue reading the entry for a nice discussion on the topic of tonemapping and the artsy versus natural "HDR look".

Good article, 3.2 is pretty decent as well, just threw an old set of bracketed exposures into the upgrade and preferred the 3.2 output

PM 3.2 is an incredible improvement in tonemapping HDR, in my limited and usually useless opinion. The control of haloing is much improved and more natural looking results are straightforward. Excellent "update".
Here are some oldies, revisited, with some post in CS3. Not the most visually stunning, but lots of dynamic range.

I haven't had a chance to get it installed and try it out. Heard you can no longer tone map the same image twice now

I trialed Ariea HDR Max and was very impressed with their ability to reduce haloing. The process was quite slow - ridiculously slow - but produced great results. Actually, it wasn't that bad - you could tweak the image at a decent speed with halos, then simply adjust the halo control and wait a while for the results.
Alas, they had a recent update which increased speed significantly, but the halos increased. I haven't had a chance to try it again under a more controlled test effort.

Here's three of the best that I've found:

Edit: Just stumbled upon this blog post listing a bunch of HDR tutorials for different software. Looks like a valuable resource.
