Does anybody in Australia know the standard 'effective life' of their camara equipment for writing the depreciation off as a business loss ? I couldn't find a typical value anywhere in the ATO documentation. I feel as though the value is probably significantly different for digital bodies, compared with film, but in any case I can't find either.

I did a quick check online and cannot find anything either. You're probably best to call the ATO call centre for information or seeing a tax professional.

Only applies in US, but my Tax accountant has them at 5 years for depreciation.
I had thought 7 years after my failed attempt to read the rules myself *. In either case, one of those two is correct, but only for US; other countries will likely differ.

*=never try reading tax rules while on drugs for illness, bad enough with clear head.
