I was looking through the viewfinder to take a picture and I saw 2 specs to the top middle of the viewfinder. Will the dust on the sensor show up in the viewfinder screen or is it just dust on viewfinder screen itself? I believe I'll order the sensor swipe kit (Copperhill method).

What you see in your viewfinder will be dust that is actually on the focussing screen or the mirror itself. These have no direct relationship to any dust you see in your images which is dust on your sensor. If you do see something in your viewfinder it is a good idea to try and remove them as they can dislodge and end up on your sensor. A good blower normally suffices in this case.

Edit: Sorry, this is what happens when you open lots of threads in different tabs. Next time I'll refresh before replaying.

DO NOT use any kind of cleaning solution on your focusing screen, use only a blower. Same advice for the mirror. The CopperHill cleaning method is to be used on the sensor only. Just thought I would let you know seeing as you mentioned about ordering the kit. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

dumb question time...where is the focusing screen? as I also have debris in the viewfinder (it's not on the mirror and it's not on the outside of the viewfinder glass)

I've read about the rocket blower. Should I give that a try first ? Since that dust could be on the mirror I should take the lens off, turn camera angle down and give it a shot of air? Also since the dust is on the mirror I don't need to lock up the mirror in menu cleaning settings. Is that right? I won't try and cleaners on the viewfinder either I'll try the air only.

Take your lens off and look up towards the top of the camera. The focus screen is an etched piece of glass.. It will have a white appearance and you should be able to see the the focus points on it.

Thank you very much. It was bugging me not knowing where the debris was :D

I used the rocket blower to try and dislodge some specks from the(I think the viewfinder lens) they are still there. Any ideas? It seems like I'm hitting it with the air but not getting those specs. Any help would be helpfull.
