I walked out of the house to do some comparison shots this aftternoon, heard the roar, looked up, and was greeted by this awesome sight.
I fumbled and bumbled and finally got the 20D into action. Luckily I had the Tamron on but only had it stopped down to f/6.3 at 1/1000 sec AV mode. might have been sharper at f/11. ISO 100.
I have got to get that 70-300 DO.
Cropped, sharpened, etc in Picasa 2. Got to learn how to work Elements better. I know the street light is distracting. I left it in for perspective and bonifides.
Sentimental Journey is on tour with a 3 day stop at local airport. I will try for more if the weather holds.

Lucky shot, of being in the right place, at the right time. :)

If the weather co-operates I'm taking my grandson out tomorrow and get her on the ground.

Thank you. Yeah, whether its the big radials, Merlins, Allisons, Rolls Royce or twin afterburners they all represent the Sound of Freedom.

Here's the best link (http://www.arizonawingcaf.com/pages/aircraftsj.html)

Running costs $US$2000 per hour...

but there are unwritten costs too... a local Aussie WW2 vet got wind of the CAF from his old USAAF buddies and -since he had retired a few years earlier- he joined up to help restore the plane.

He had stories about the endless jobs... anyway he had got permission from the wife to go "for 6 months.." - but after a few years he started getting divorce papers and nasty legal stuff. He came back to Australia to sell up and pay the lawyers. He had quite a collection of WW2 stuff to auction off, mostly old warbirds in bits and jeeps etc. As far as I know he returned to Arizona... its a disease!

NIce pic!!! Are you in Santa Cruz? I have been watching B-17 fly over my house in Capitola. I had my hands full and no camera when it came overhead.

Good, quick catch. I wonder if that is the same one that was down here in San Diego for the air show a couple of weeks ago.

I'm forty miles south of Fresno. The old girl is on tour and was probably the same one you saw and that Zach saw a couple of weeks ago in San Diego.

Gotta love it when you just happen to be where you need to be, with your camera in hand.
