Often you hear about the sorrid tales of having to deal with a Canon Service Center. More often than not, it is a tale of delays upon delays.

I thought I might have a wee bit of a focussing issue with my 500 f4 and the 1DMKII. Given that both units were still under warranty I decided to take the two of them in and let Canon have a go at them. Now parting with these two items was hard on me. It was like sending your child away to camp for the first time.

I took the items in to the local center in Montreal on May 3. My heart just about stopped when they said they would be done around the 23rd of May. Yikes I thought. Much to my dismay and glee they called today that they were done and I could pick them up. That is some 10 business days early. They made a small adjustment on the lens.

The service center in Montreal rocks.http://www.pbase.com/ssim/image/42051236.jpg

Somewhat OT, but let us know how the lens works now.

I guess canon's service in Japan is outstanding. Usually they wont say "no" to any reasonable request. My G3 developed a LCD hinge issue 2 months after the warrenty period which they agreed to repair free. My G3 still had problem after I picked it up so they apologized, repaired again & sent it to my place by courier service, all for free & extended 3 montha gurranty from date of repair.
Same for 20D, sensor/mirror cleaning, firmwire upgrade, they do it all with a smile at their face & usually ASAP.
(Cleaned my sensor two times already in since April) To certain extent they accomodate personal requests like delivery within specific time etc also.
I really consider this a big plus to stick to canon !
Touchwood ! hope they dont screw up my 20D with firmwire upgarde ;)

Oops: forgot to mention the best thing - canon service centre is ~30 mins from my home ;)

I've had to send a lens to fix a focusing problem and a problem I had with a flash. Both were fixed with no delays at the NJ service center.

Maybe I have good timing. :)

I've had good results from Canon NJ as well. Sent the slightly-out-of-warranty D60 back with the viewfinder display not working and a plea that they consider both the timing (just out of warranty and just around Christmas) and my years of Canon loyalty. Got it back in about 10 days door-to-door at no charge. Sent in the 100-400 for IS failure, in warranty, and again, no hassles, 10 days door-to-door.
