I had gone to my childhood hunting area with the thought of shooting some deer. This time with a camera. This is along the Oldman River in southern Alberta in western Canada. As the day progressed there were no deer. I was quite surprised as there used to be so many. I must have saw at least 200 head of prairie antelope:

I drove along this river for about 4 hours or more and saw a few deer but they were always so far away they weren't worth shooting. I decided to call it a day and I was heading back home. I had just come out of the river valley and turned around a small hill and there they were. There were about 15 head of deer about 200 feet off the road. Finally I thought. In true lazy fashion I lowered the passenger window raised the camera to my eye and took a shot. Then it happened CF Full. I thought I chased all day to find deer and I only had one shot left on the card when the time came. By the time that I had changed the card, they were long gone.

Should I feel stupid that I never hear of prairie antelopes before? I thought antelopes were only in Africa.

I can't believe this thread came back to life.

You need to get out more;-) . The prarie antelope can be found in western Canada and the northwest United States from what I know. I have seen them in southern Alberta and they were quite numerous in and around Yellowstone National Park in Montana/Wyoming.

The day that I took these I was actually looking for deer but must have seen at least a couple of hundred of them. They are a real treat to watch run and jump.
