Playing around with the 50, got this shot of my son. Any preference to which you think is better?

my vote goes to black and white...odd...I'm almost always a colour guy.

I lean toward B&W regardless. I also find this format hides those "teen skin blemishes" better, which is something they truly appreciate (IMO).

The world is in color. I choose to view the world as this next subject sees it. :)

B&W works better for me.

Thanks, all. I was leaning toward the b+w as well for the reason Dave states-hides the blemishes better. I think it fits his expression better as well.
Thanks again.

BW because there is no color in the shot. When you have yellows, reds, greens or whatever, they turn out grey in BW shots.
The only color in this shot is the skin tone soo BW is better IMO.

I think the colour version http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
it has much more impact
I know it is more close up then the bl/wh one so it shows with more impact
I much prefer it anyway

I never noticed any blemishes until later

Sheeeesh, is that icon an image of you? If so, you must be a model ;)

Thanks again my friend.

Thanks for the input everyone. I printed the b+w at 5x7, and it looks pretty good.

Marie- it's the same shot, just with the color removed. I think it looks closer d/t the bigger file size. In the color one you can kinda see his 2 different eye colors, but other shots I have of him make it clearer. He needs a shave desperately, but he's got that junior rock star thing going on.

I knew it was the same shot

am glad you decided which one was best

it's always hard to decide, especially when we are looking at something for a while it gets even harder.

good luck

Ok clone out some of the blemishes on the color and thats the one I would choose and I almost ALWAYS prefer black and white. I love the color of his eyes! eyes always draw me into a photograph and sometimes that is lacking on a black and white picture. its a great shot. nice work.

Sorry Marie, that's what threw me.

no apology needed at all.
thanks
and just want to say I was only joking when I said 'dude' as I wanted to say your name
and saw the 'txdude'
so it was to be either TX or Dude
:)
I still prefer the colour but understand why the other may be the best choice

You guys are too kind.
Berrylish- what software are you using? I've just got the PSE 2 that came with the camera, and I can't find the healing or patch tools.

What does HE prefer?

Wow, I just saw the PS edited colour version. VERY good. That one in B/W would look stunning. Try duplicating the layer and setting blend mode to multiply. You could have a gangster in the family..... maybe not!

txdude35

What does HE prefer?

He's pretty noncommital about it. Typical teenager- doesn't really care one way or the other.
I gave prints of the b+w to his mother (divorced) and grandmother, and now they want to know why I don't have anything similar of #2 son.
Berrylish- I have PSP 8 on another computer, so I'm going to look there before I try cloning, etc.

Interesting , but I think the grayscale works better here. Just up the contrast a bit. Now that you've had a year or so to think it over and get better at processing you might be abel to get a better result.
