A little bit late, but there you go. Shot with a 400D and the 55-250IS. As always, feedback welcome - especially on some of the ones at the bottom. But I'll come to them...

For these next ones, I tried to use a long shutter, but as the car was going round the corner, it was rotating. So although I was panning, the rotation meant the image was still soft. So I ended up using quicker shutters (c. 1/500th) to try and get them sharp, but lost all sense of motion! Any tips on how to improve these? Cheers!

All good shots. I was there too - but didn't get any particularly great shots. Where were you standing to get such close shots?

Cheers. I think #1 & #2 were on the exit of Club. The rest were in the complex. The luffield terrace let's you get fairly close, and if you stand at the back it's raised enough to see over the fence.

Fantastic!! I was there but the other side to the stand - in the pit lane - tried to get a few through the open fence on the pit lane - but didn't manage it. It was excellent fun just to sit and watch though......esp all the pit stops etc.

Hope you enjoyed it

Yeah, it was an excellent weekend. Didn't take too many shots, just went with some mates, a tent and some beer and had a great weekend.

I'm assuming it's not just me & you who have racked up 140+ views on this thread, so can anyone else help improve shots like 7 & 8?

Cheers.

Pictures are sharp and can't expect 55-250 can provide such details.
Good skill!

To your request for suggestions .... Take the shot earlier (as you have in number 8 ) - focus on the lead car and use about 1/80 and pan. As the car is pointing towards you the paraleax effect will be minimal and a good pan will remove it altogether. The other cars will be very blurred.

Excellent, thanks for the response! Will that only work if the car is coming head on, or can you get away with it on 3/4 pans? I guess it's trial & error though?

Not sure I'll start as low as 1/80th, I might have to work my way down to that though :)

Thanks again!

I don't have 2cents to give but, I love the location and angle of picture 8, but it just isn't an exciting scene (to me), but that is an awesome angle. Do you have anymore pictures from this corner or view point? The rest of the pictures are awesome especially number 1.

Considering your equipment isn't top end, I think you have done a terrific job. I like #1 & #4.
#5 would have been a terrific shot as well except the rear of the car is not in view. Very nice wheel blur too. Well done.
I assume you were using a monopod?
Re the last couple of shots. It's difficult to get a sense of motion when the vehicle isn't really moving quickly across your view.
One method of movement would be to use a wider aperture to perhaps blur the rear of the car whilst keeping the front sharp.
However the 55-250 IS lens has a widest aperture of f5.6 at 250mm focal range. I don't think that's going to help you achieve that.

Blimey this is an old thread! Thanks for the feedback everyone. Mosephus - I've got some more but they're a bit rubbish as well. I've added 2 more just for you though :-)

frizzle - thanks for the comments. No, I wasn't using a monopod, just handheld, and with IS off as I can't get it kicks in when I pan, even though it's supposed to auto detect or something.
