How do I create more DOF in my camera shots? What is the precedure for the 20D?

If you want "more DOF" (DOF=area of sharpness, depth-wise) you would a) use a shorter focal length lense, b) use a small aperture (ie, f16), and/or c) focus further away.

But that's not what I think you're asking. I think you want to know how to get a shallow DOF (subject in focus, background out of focus). In that case, the reverse of the above is what to do (wide open apertures, closer focus, and/or longer focal lengths).

Yes, that works the same for a 20D as it does for any other SLR.

mdaddyrabbit, you should look into a photography class in your area, it'll explain all the basics to you a lot more easily that we can here.

Different people ask me what I mean by Depth of Field. The easy way to remember it is to think of it as Depth of Focus. If you want a deep Depth of Focus, use a small aperture (large f number). If you want narrow Depth of Focus, use a big aperture (small f number).
