Home from my 2nd trip to Upper Michigan, and hoping I've improved over my
first trip, with the help of all your suggestions. I'd love any Criticism!

These pics were from my first trip:

Looking much better!! I think you have nailed the two waterfall pics. I think the two shots of the peninsula are nice but I'm just not as excited about the angle. I cant help but think there is a more interesting picture from lower down the slope, although for all I know its not possible. The sunset is fantastic, wish I had been there to see it.

Good photos overall, here are my qualms (take with a pound of salt) :

# 1 & #2
- boring composition and/or subject

#3
+ pretty green water (beats the brown water we have here)
- crooked horizon
- boring composition and/or subject

#4
- boring composition and/or subject
- subject too centered in frame

#5
+ nice sunset
- horizon and subject too centered in frame

I would say that landscape photography is sometimes the most challenging to make different or memorable when you're somewhere that's "nowhere" ( no offense intended, read further for explanation).

What I mean by that is that it's easier to take good pictures of the Coliseum, Egypt, Hawaii, and the like; b/c they are known for their beauty/mystique.

But the more mundane/boring/unknown/innocuous the setting, the greater the payoff is when you do get a spectacular shot.

Next trip, I would recommend trying out some really odd compositions, angles, and shooting positions; do things that the other 5 guys with cameras are NOT doing.

You are on the right track, just practice ,practice, practice.

the 3rd one is very close to perfect. Some suggestion: make the sky more dromatic (underexpose) and tild the whole picture so that it is more level. I live the roundness of the line in the middle it gives the impression that its actually the curbature of the earth

Wow, Thanks Everyone! It feels really good to know that I am improving. You know, I did not realize the horizon in #3 was crooked until it was mentioned, I'll have to fix that.

I do still have to work on composition, and I don't know why I still put everything in the center of the frame. Old habits I guess. I don't think I'm confident in myself yet, I felt awkward with my tripod with so many people around, and I only stepped off the main pathways once, and that was at the above Falls. I can't wait for the next Trip, to try to improve composition.

Thanks,
Terri
