Dave's 3rd annual show me your PP contest!

Since the last contest was so successful, I've decided to have another. This time, a beauty shot but a bit more challenging! I'll post the pic tomorrow.

Until then, here are the rules:

So you think your PP is as good as mine? Prove it! I'll show mine if you show yours! I'll send you a hi-res photo and your job is to put your PP all over it!

So the only question is, "Are YOU man enough to put your PP up against mine"?

Here's your chance to show me and the world what you can do with your PP!

Technicals:

- PM me and I'll send you a link to a high rez shot of mine for you to download.

- Once you're done with your edit, PM me back and I'll supply you with an email address to where you can send the file

- I'll then host the best ones on my site for review

- Deadline to PM will be this Friday at midnight, Pacific time.

- Contest Deadline is TBD.

***So in a nutshell, you won't be competing against me, you'll be competing against each other. I will choose the winner based on my own personal editing criteria. If you can make the picture look like it belongs in a magazine, that's great. If you blur the skin, over whiten and sharpen the eyes = instant fail.
I'm not looking for photoshop trickery like a sunset in the background or alien skin or zombie eyes, this will be a beauty shot that will need to be enhanced! Look at my work for details of what I like!

I'll send out the link tomorrow after it's uploaded. Please keep the link to yourself. I will only accept edits from members who have requested it.

Indeed. A little humility would go a long way. I accepted your previous challenge from your first contest, and I did not even get a chance to do any PP work to your image.

I agree with the above poster as well - you're the one who decides everything, and that makes me wonder if this is really a way for you to get free PP work from members on this board - and you won't even state what the prize is! Contest = prize does it not?

Guys, no one is forced to enter this contest. It's not saying who sucks or who doesn't according to "everyones"standards, but according to what and how he edits. Smug? sure...Dave's a straight up prick! I can't argue there! But the reason he even started posting these contest is from the numerous people who compliment his work ON THIS SITE and have asked him for his opinions. Only allowing G&N shooters is not because he thinks they are only ones deserving, but to avoid 50million people trying to enter and half of them not even knowing what they doing. As a people shooter, You wouldnt' see me enter a Sailboat photo contest. Not to mention the shot being processed for contest is of HIS WORK. Once people get a hold of it, anyone can turn it into crap and post it anywhere! I wouldnt' want one of my shots edited to sh*t by someone else and then float around.

As far as getting "free" work processed...this shoot was tfp. I was there, it was just for fun and for the MUA/hair/model's portfolio use. He has no need to get more shots of this shoot edited. None of the shots from this shoot are being used in his port.

I'm not coming down on you guys...just stating what I think his intentions and reasons are.

I agree with some of the above comments. Even if Dave says your PP is not good enough, it does not mean the PP sucks. Its just his opinion. I´ve said this earlier and I say it again, opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one.
I dont see any reason why there should be a poll for the best image. Daves contest, Daves rules. Should be clear enough

I'm going to extend the deadline for submission and completion because I'm tied up with a lot of other work and my not be visiting here for a bit. I was just offering an observation and a suggestion. It's clear it's your contest. Changing the rules might create more participation and broader involvement.

Actually...Dave thinks far from that about his work. Knowing him personally, I'd disagree. But I can understand how some passer by's may come to that conclusion. The bad part about the internet, is you can't read emotions, sarcasm and humor. Only letters, numbers and words.

Now if people are referring to the OP in this thread... look past what initial thoughts you might have of him and you can understand he just made a contest and rules for people who NORMALLY shoot this style of work and contribute to the G&N section.

I would have preferred an asian with perfect skin.. this one was certainly a challenge and is obviously not a 'beauty' model. I spent about an hour and a half on mine and called it done even though I think it needs about another 30 mins of work.

Bummer there wasn't more participation, Dave. Seeing 'em all side-by-side is really informative for a guy like me (and many other non-professional retouchers).

I see bits and pieces in each version that I like. Awesome dodge/burn lighting emphasis in Doidinho's, great eyes in Semmonka's, etc. I have to admit I did take a bit of artistic license :rolleyes: with my own submission in nose, chin and cheek areas since you said we could be more extreme this time. But nice stuff from everyone that submitted.

Hey, Robert - I really like your overall edit! I admittedly "overcooked" my nose work whereas yours looks very balanced, and your highlight finishing is gorgeous (IMO). I'm a little surprised no one altered her uneven top lip though. She looks like she either got a bee-sting on that far side, or the near side's oddly reduced. However, several edits jump out to me and yours is awesome! It'll be interesting to get Dave's comments back.

Thanks for the contest and the critique.

As you can tell the nose gave me fits. Both with reshaping and the D&B.. Doidinho did a perfect job on the nose especially the shape. I could not find a solution to address it w/o really butchering it and taking it too far. His example is what I was aiming for but could not quite come up with. I also had issues with the D&B as you pointed out. I did not want to change the lighting but I had a hard time enhancing the darker areas w/o making it look mottled. So I ended up with some halfway house editing on it.
