Whoaa, Liza & Wu really went nuts last night. Stockings, clamoring for Wool etc. Perma holding Wool's bricks...
LS,go get the girl. Just talk to her. Maybe set a date for when you get back. I understand about you not wanting long distance, but how long you gonna be in Aus? Days? Weeks? Months? Years? If the latter two, then go for it. If it's weeks, still go for it. We all need some fun in our life, and even if it's only one coffee it can be very nice.
Don't have any expectations, just see it as meeting a new nice person. Then let things happen/not happen. The minute you start to think about a possible future with someone you haven't even gotten to know yet, that's when all the doubts & excuses set in. I never think "This guy might be a boyfriend" when meeting a man. I think "He seems nice, let's find out if he is". Besides, even if you leave the country some day, why shouldn't you have some romance in life? :)

Awww, thanks! I don't have any internet at home right now. My dad decided not to renew it as mom got internet connection on the other line, and they hardly use the net anyway. I will probably try to get some temporary internet connection for a couple of months until I move out.
that's good advice Claire, he should be around, depending on where he is in Oz he is either 2 to 4 hours behind me.
Well, I am a bit of a realist (unfortunately). I don't believe in love at first sight, I only believe in lust at first sight. ;) And for me to count someone as my boyfriend, well, that either has to feel very natural very quick, or I take time to count the person as it. Just because I'm hanging out with him all the time it doesn't necessarily mean I define him as my boyfriend. So, I never go on a date thinking "this guy might be nice and I might end up being his gf". Never. I go thinking "He's nice, cute and hopefully a fun guy. We'll see if there's any chemistry and go with that." Heck, I get a bit freaked out if a guy says I'm his girlfriend within days! I get freaked out if he thinks "This is the girl I'm gonna marry" on the first date. (Ok, if he DID think that and faaar in the future he porposes, then it's of course cute if he tells me this, but don't tell me within hours of meeting!)
He did mention work being busy

Watching the eagles is very relaxing...I used to go watch them for hours when I lived in NY....but there are none around this area....we have a few hawks...but that is about all you ever see here. Whenever I go back north for a while I try to get out for a day or two to see the eagles..they have a couple of prime spots not all that far from where I used to live. As far as taking photos of them....I have never had much luck at catching them close enough for shoot.

That's cool ... I am a man and understand. These ladies and lady-boys don't. They expect you to do stuff they wouldn't do themselves  They offer good advice (of a kind) but at the end of the day don't see it is basic cost/benefit analysis and all will compute it different. For some, being alone is better ... and then one day it isn't and there is a change. Just flow ... it's no big deal :D

I have one good story of how a fly sat for a MBTI personality inventory..
We had a briefing and there was this gigantic annoying as heck fly buzzing around the room. The speaker brought up the MBTI charts on the projector and asked "Any comment?" just as the fly landed on the screen in one of the boxes..
"Yes, I think the fly is a E... personality" [forgot the letters]
:D
Probably funnier if you were there :D

I took several but I'm waiting for half-time (football) before I download them :) Don't know if they are good though because I was using the 100-400 (it was the only lens I'd brought) and so I took a couple with it and a couple with my A620 P&S....

I typically find the sunset time for my intended location using the GPS, then I pop up at the place half an hour before sunset, and stay for half an hour (give or take a little, how hungry, and how patient I am) after the indicated time.
Some of my favorites are half an hour after the 'official' sunset.
1-4 is good for the 'great ball of fire' effect when you rack it out to 400 and point it at the sun just about to sink below the horizon.
(Note: In the interest of eye safety one should NOT point the lens at the sun especially when looking through a viewfinder, however at the VERY last light of day (minute or so before sunset), it may be possible.. use your better judgement!!)

The time after the official sunset is some of the best light there is...the other thing people sometimes forget to do is to turn around...sometimes 180 degrees from the sunset you will find some pretty impressive sky images.

We try to get there about an hour before sunset to set up...the birds all come out about a half an hour or so before sunset...and hunt. My owl, whom I'm photographed twice is SO beautiful...but fast...and he's never still, until he gets his rodent or whatever...then he's gone.

The sun sets behind the mountains there...so if it's overcast we rarely see it...but it makes for some lovely skies...sunset is my favorite time for landscapes.

Planning on turning this one into a print.. I'm titling it "Guiding Light". I felt that the arc lamp with its unusual coloration stands out in the middle of the scene. Took a little bit off the top and bottom for the final crop too. Taken 25 minutes after actual sunset just as I was about to wrap up the mission and go home.

Yours truly the lazy @ss is pretty much assured of not having many sunset shots to show off ;) whenever possible, I sleep till 11 because I am so dang tired!! Even on vacation.
The only time I am awake early in the morning is when I am headed out to work or when I am on a plane at an odd hour..
So I make do with sunsets :D they only have to compete with food (dinner time) instead of sleep. As you can tell, sleep takes priority.

Yoda...I like the interesting light in that shot...very cool...I think I would crop a bit more....too much negative space to the right...and your light is too centered...if you trim the right side and a bit of the sky....I think it will strengthen the impact of your light. You don't have image editing turned on...so it is kind of hard to explain without a diagram.

AHA! Got it.. yes, it does place the focus on the light instead of making the viewer sweep their eyes across the whole landscape (which was initially the vision I had).
I am not normally a stickler for composition rules, but the rule of thirds seems to fit this image particularly well. My edit places all the key elements along the thirds and it looks good. Thanks Wool!
