Now that is dedication...

While you're here I might as well ask you - what do you do with buyers who string you along? You have more experience especially with pesky buyers than I (hopefully) ever will.During our first few years, that was a problem. We didn't have a large enough client base to be able to pick and choose, so we'd probably keep working them long past the point where it made sense. After a few years, we were strong enough to figure out who those people were, and move on to someone more likely to buy. I guess it's part of the learning curve. As our career developed, we spent less and less time working with buyers at all, and concentrated on sellers. I think most agents eventually come to the realization that listings are the saner approach to doing well in the profession.

One thing that seemed to changed in our dealings with clients over time was our ability to convey to them that our time was as valuable as theirs. Another thing we did was to make the clients do some of the work. If I though someone was really wasting my time, I'd call them with a list of 20-30 properties to drive by. Obviously, I wouldn't have done that if they were good buyers, but it frequently gave them a little appreciation for what they're expecting me to do without completely severing the relationship 'just in case.'

I've known some agents who have a strict rule---I'm not going to show more than X number of houses, etc., etc. That's just not real world, and they're losing money that way. Some buyers are simply going to take longer than others, but with any buyers, there is a point beyond which it makes no sense to waste any more time with them, and then it becomes a matter of tactfully telling them so. You've done everything in your power, and maybe they should be talking to someone else. That's hard to do when you've spent days, weeks, or months trying to develop the relationship.

When you're in sales, the most valuable thing you have is time. People who have no regard for it are not your friends.

hmmm.....very good wisdom. I was just talking to one of my very experienced colleagues about relationship management an hour ago and he shared some of his hard earned wisdom as well. There are certain avenues not pursuing.. true that.

Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it. Won't hold you up now - see if you can get some more sleep. It's late night in my sector as well and I should be hitting the hay.. it makes tomorrow get here faster, especially when tomorrow holds promise of a big fat L

Boy, am I an ass. I just went back and looked at the thread, and realized you were asking about how do deal with people who are buying your used camera equipment.:o:o:o:o Instead, I end up giving you a lecture about selling real estate, which has no relevance at all.

My apologies.

As to your question as I now understand it, I think you have to be fair and reasonable. That applies to yourself, too, and you are certainly entitled to at least equal consideration from the buyer. If a person is dragging their feet, just give them a deadline. Explain that part of your decision in accepting their offer was getting their money in a timely manner. If that's not going to be the case, you'll have to find another buyer. It is possible to be firm without being a jerk.

I'm sure you can say that tactfully without ruffling feathers.

No worries Chief.. there are more lessons to be learned from your real estate tale. Many of my colleagues come from diverse backgrounds and the stories we tell are very industry-specific.. it's up to everybody else to extract the lesson from the underlying story. I would say you conveyed it well.. there was plenty for me to learn in there. Not only selling glass but dealing with clients in general. :)

Holy c... I was just looking at the webpage of a local kamerashop where camera bodies and lenses are among the cheapest available in Copenhagen and just a 5 min. walk from where I live.

Then I browsed through their prices on memorycards. I sincerely hope nobody buys their memorycards.

A 4 GB SanDisk Extreme IV cost 2.195 DKK = $378 !! Everywhere else the same card only cost 630 DKK = $108. Talk about a huge profit

Hehe well last week I did order 2 4 GB Extreme IV cards because the price dropped to 50% but today I cancelled the order because the webshop never responded to a status inquery. Ususally when I order cards before 4 pm I can have them the day after so waiting from thursday until today without any kind of acknowledgement that they had processed my order mean they loose my business. The competition is hard on memory cards here so they should respond faster or loose business.

Since the price is still dropping a little I am going to wait a few days before ordering the cards from the webshop I usually use.

And I am also starting to consider getting the 24-105 IS. I probably should wait a month or two but might go get it friday or saturday if the shop has it in stock then (they have it now).

Yeah I am considering it for the africa trip. I checked the specs and both size and weigth is smaller than the 24-70 f/2.8 so I am leaning towards the 24-105. Because I figure with IS and on the 5D I probably can do without the extra stop.

Actually, the 24-105 is an outstanding low-light lens...the problem is people just don't understand IS and common terminology. If people could ever get it through their heads that IS stops motion on the camera end of the image instead of the subject end, it would make understanding things so much simpler.

That brings up a good point...lately I've been seeing people argue/debate something (there's a thread on the definition of "reach" that comes to mind) and really have absolutely NO concept of what they are talking about. They just seize on what makes sense to them and try to shift every comment to "make their point". It's so hard to know who really knows what they are talking about (if one is ignorant on a particular subject) because some of the most eloquent really are the worst informed.

You know what's cracked me up though? Since the new 16-35 was announced, everyone talking trash about how "bad" the old (that's not really old at all) one was. BUT if you look at all the "what lens should I buy" from 1 month ago and beyond, if the option was btw. the 16-35 and the 17-40, 99% would say the 16-35....Now I'm NOT saying the 16-35 is bad. I don't think it is. I think if you are going to put 16mm on a FF, it's going to be very TOUGH to get it to be sharp to the edges...but the way "educated" opinions go around here, I'm beginning to think you just have to KNOW the person who's speaking...know if they've really got "time" with the product...otherwise beware of opinions. Because they always trend toward the newest...

I just read yesterday where one person was REALLY vehement about the IQ of the 5D stomping the MKIIN. He intimated he'd had both (quote: I've had both)...but he hadn't (later said: If I'd owned both I'd show you the diff but I haven't)...it came out that he'd just seen shots from both but OWNED the 5D. Now the OP was considering buying one or the other and wanted the best IQ...and here you've got someone literally VOWING that the 5D was a million times better...now I've owned both...I think they are really comparable, with the MKIIN winning on options and the 5D winning on ISO (and that just barely) and of course the larger sensor...but again, that's my opinion.

Anyway, I think chat threads like this, really do help, community wise because there isn't one person here that I wouldn't feel comfortable asking and recieving an answer to a gear or technical question. Out "there" I have to take everything with a grain of salt and sift through "who's a gear head", "who's trying to justify their purchases", "who likes to sound smart" and "who really knows their stuff."

Just a morning observation :D

What?? are you saying IS don't freeze action ? :p

j/k. Maybe it would be easier to understand with a different name. Something like anti-shake which describes the actual action it helps for.

I checked the archive thread for photos shot with this lens but there where not many of them also shot with with the 5D. If anybody have high ISO low light photos taken with this lens and 5D I would very much like to see more. LOL   I'm not upset Lonnie really...I was just thinking how confusing things must be for someone who really doesn't know what to do. I know that when I'm in the dark about something and post a thread for an answer, I really do get about 50% of people who either don't know but want to appear that they do or want to argue against whatever's said. And the other 50% are exactly opposing viewpoints (such as in my recent "should I get the 400 or the 300 F4 IS" thread...) It can be very confusing.

There are lots of wild claims made about this, that or the other camera, lens or photographic accessory being totally superior to any other camera, lens or photographic accessory. You can usually tell who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't....not by their level of techno babble, but by their actual willingness to go out and take an image or two to use to prove or disprove the point. All you have to do is read the "worst (insert choice of tool here) ever" threads to find out who is knowledgeable and who is full of it up to their ears.

At least here in Tupperville, you can count on the regulars giving you a reasonable answer, generally backed up with some proof, even if it does involve a bit of @ss busting from the rest of the gang.

I would kind of like to be closer to Chris, Angie, and Bean. If the others weren't in MN, I would love being closer to them. I have decided I can no longer do this much cold, or this much north.:)

Yeah I am considering it for the africa trip. I checked the specs and both size and weigth is smaller than the 24-70 f/2.8 so I am leaning towards the 24-105. Because I figure with IS and on the 5D I probably can do without the extra stop.
I just got my 24-105 before my Maui trip. It's a little bit long on the wide side on my 20D, but it makes a great pair with the 10-22 I got just prior.:D;)

It was actually the 10-22 that made me think the 24-105 would be a good option for me, and now I'm really glad I have both. I have a few shots from both I'll be posting soon, and I can strongly recommend both with no reservations.

For now, the "only" shots I have posted were taken with the "lowly" 70-300 IS ;):p:D, and can be found here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=282916) (includes your requested additions, Permie ;)).

I will be using it on my 5D so I think the focal length will be just perfect. And means I can probably leave the 16-35 at home.

Fiddling around (meaning shots not worth sharing, but worth playing with), I was able to get close to 1/2 second exposures handheld that I was very pleased with.

I'll have to see if I can find any worth sharing, though I'm sure there are lots better than what I'm likely to have out there among the Tupperwarians.

Tommy here are two galleries. I would rather not have them linked to the thread because one is a private gallery but they are all shot with the 24-105 and the 5D (at iso's varying from 200 to 1600) in very BAD forest lighting...(the photos are varying in comp..some good, some not & they will probably bore you, but it's a wide spectrum of what you can expect with that combo in tough conditions).

Actually, the 24-105 is an outstanding low-light lens...the problem is people just don't understand IS and common terminology. If people could ever get it through their heads that IS stops motion on the camera end of the image instead of the subject end, it would make understanding things so much simpler.

It would also save a gigantic amount of carp about 'IS doesn't stop motion'. I get lectured a lot on that too. I know it doesn't stop motion. Imodium stops motion. Depends catch motion if Imodium fails. THAT is the backup plan. Yes I have Imodium in the camera bag as part of the emergency first aid kit should the SHTF, or merely, hit the toilet too often :p (when you travel, take NO chances especially when you are far from home)

See, some of the best solutions are low tech. Ask your pharmacist. Generics work just as well as the original drug too, and are cheaper. My doc prescribes generics for the really bad days, together with a couple of other concoctions to restore the guts to normal working order. Generally something to restore the 'good' bacteria in the gut as well as a clay solution to adsorb (no, not misspelled) any remaining toxins in the GI tract. I believe the 3 things are available OTC too, but this is the first time I've seen anybody recommend all 3 at once, thrice a day till it's fixed.

Oh, where were we, talking about IS...... ;)

My money's on you SIS...I've had too many bruisings to pick AGAINST YOU!

I tried taking one with the phone camera, but it doesn't really show off the haircut. :(

*still awaiting freshly hair-cutted Claire pics*

Personally, I'm still waiting the Lensbaby 4.0 IS version to come out in PMA.

When I was growing up, the dentist used to come out of the back to reassure my parents that, not only was I fine, but that they hadn't even started to do anything to me yet, let alone anything that might justify my rather audible reaction. My parents had grown up with the dentist, so we even got extra special treatment. They started to schedule me and my brother our appointments before they opened to the general public so as not to scare their other patients.

Of course, they did have a hygenist my parents nicknamed "Helga the Horrible" in appreciation of her rather rough approach to her work. ;)

I gave up using novacaine many years ago. There really isn't that much discomfort. I think it was the noise and the smell of cooking tooth that used to be most troubling, that and the numb lips and drooling for several hours afterward. I wanted to rip the arms off the chair today and beat the dentist with them. Doing a root canal and telling me I should be deadened. I can full well tell when I am in pain! I gave up using novacaine many years ago. There really isn't that much discomfort. I think it was the noise and the smell of cooking tooth that used to be most troubling, that and the numb lips and drooling for several hours afterward. At least now, when I leave the dentist's office, it is over. Isn't this a fun subject?!!

yes. and you are definately helping me to talk myself into actually going to the dang dentist... .. Why do we have to go?? I mean is it one of those things because your mom tells you to that it gets in your head and you just KNOW it has to be done?...

I wanted to rip the arms off the chair today and beat the dentist with them. Doing a root canal and telling me I should be deadened. I can full well tell when I am in pain! He just wouldn't believe me til I came up out of the chair and told him he had to stop. Finally shot me some more and went back to work but he was a jerk afterwards. I'm going to be really bruised in the morning.

:(

You want dat I should come over and beat dis guy? Does ya? For you, I will do dis ting. You're famly. I will do dis, for famly.

Fellow Oregonians (PermaPuddle, Boring Boys, etc) I can't believe you are on here and not watching STORMWATCH 2007! The snow is on the way (all quarter inch of it)

Okay, I'm off to UPS to pick up my Arca-Swiss & Wimberly!!! And then to my meeting. See you all later.

Oh yea I know it obvious we are all going to die!

I don't need to pay attention there can be 6 inchs of snow on campus, and every other college in the area closed and my school will stay open, so I could care less.

I like it, Sari. Is there, perhaps, a mono with a ball head within your price range? That might be more adventageous.....

Nope. One of the rules around here is that you have to read ALL the posts...then do a report on them...after you FULLY comprehend what they've said, then you come back and get whooped by Lord Malone.

much better. The ball head is much easier with a monopod. Well, much easier period, but with a mono, you don't have the luxury of playing around with the adjustment paddles of a non ball head.

I just ordered it for Puddle's monopod. Wool uses it and it's supposed to work like a ball head.

I don't know. I bought it for his monopod because Wool told me it would work on it. It hasn't come yet.

It'll work. You have to be sure you have the right batteries, though, otherwise the gimbals won't work quite right.
