I dreamed about the eclipse last night. It was pretty marvy and strange. Much different from reality. . . which is weird in itself. I usually only dream of the mundane- very realistic, every day activities type dreams.

The color got better....but the noise was horrible...had to keep upping the ISO...and slowing the shutter...was already wide open...so I was out of choices...now motion blur comes into play.

Mooooo M(o)!! How was dinner?

I've been home all day and feeling lazy the whole time. I did shoot a few frames though so I guess it wasn't a total waste of day :)
Yummy, back peppered chicken & veggies with good chow mein.

I am still trying to load this computer and clean house in here as well. Boy, do I have a boatload of junk!!!

Yeah- the only way I got any red (and not much) was to overexpose. sure wish I had made up my mind to try longer when I was out the first time. I couldn't see though and was almost standing in the street. cars were whipping close past me. Kinda scary.

Mine are very realistic and sensory but are just normal things except for some odd twist of some kind, like some people not having eyes or other oddity. Of course, there are the random cannibal cows and biting calfs and sparkling clean bathtubs full of glazed donuts.

No, it was too short. I think I'll be giving it another try in a couple hours. No steak dreams so far today. In fact, I don't remember dreaming of anything at all.

I like a good food dream, the only dream that's better is.. well you know. ;)

I've had dreams that were so vivid, so real, that waking up was like dieing and being reborn.. like reincarnation.. as the "other life" had been so compelling. I've carried the weight of loss from a dream for weeks,

However this is not the norm for me, most of my dreams I am totally conscious of the fact that I am dreaming and use that consciousness to exert influence on them.. that can be fun :)

You should ask Lonnie about steak.

I have had those ultra real dreams quite often. sometimes the sense of loss upon awaking is immense. Sometimes the reality of it is very intense and sometimes frighteningly so. Sometimes I really wonder which was the reality.

I can usually direct my dreams, however . . . when I have them

I can remember most of my dreams when I try, but I don't always have dreams I'm aware of every day.

I know exactly how that feels. I've had some like that, too. It just puts me in a bad mood for days!

It's worse when the dreams are nightmares...... when you've seen things.. you shouldn't be seeing..

It's not so much the 'horror flick' kind of nightmares where things chase you. It's even more scary than that because these are relatively ordinary scenarios where things go horribly wrong, and they're so much scarier because they are plausible.

The key is to use a tripod, low ISO, a fast shutter, and observe the "sunny 16" rule. I use f/8 rather than f/16, though.

I am still trying to load this computer and clean house in here as well. Boy, do I have a boatload of junk!!!

I do, too! I'm trying to "de-junk" and toss as much as possible. I've also been donating heavily to our local Clothing Bank. In the spring, I'm having a yard sale to get rid of some larger items, and I'm donating some of my excess fabric to our home economics department.

I have had those ultra real dreams quite often. sometimes the sense of loss upon awaking is immense. Sometimes the reality of it is very intense and sometimes frighteningly so. Sometimes I really wonder which was the reality.

I have very real dreams like that, too. Some of them I don't want to end, and others are horrifying. I can restart them if my subconcious doesn't like what has occurred. Sometimes I have dreams that are like a movie and don't involve me at all. It's all too bizarre.

I must say I am glad that I haven't had to ski in 10-14 degree weather in about 30 mph winds this year, not to say that the skiing wasn't worth it that day it was just really cold!.

I must say that when it actually got cold here back in January, I was happy to be next to the toasty wood stove.

Fast shutter speed, actually. That's the one thing that trips up people most when shooting the moon. Remember, you're aiming directly at a big bright light source.

Yea its reflecting the light of the sun so its basically a sunny 16 rule (but from what I have gathered this evening that doesn't apply during eclipses?)

I really like the third and fourth shots!

The only time I've bumped into buffer problems on my 20D were the two sets of whale shots I posted in the Nature section. I probably could have made it easier had I switched to JPGs instead of RAW, but we were in and out of clouds, so I was afraid of messing up white balance and exposure on what could be once in a lifetime shots. As it was, I know there were a few shots I missed because the buffer was full, but the ones I got more than made up for it.

Now, if I'd gotten used to a larger buffer, or if I was taking shots like that for $$$, I'd be all over the fastest thing I could find quicker than you can type your credit card number onto B&H's website.

They taught us a few things on the whale watch. Among the highlights -- the name of the muscle that powers the humpback (the peduncle); and how to tell how old a humpback is (the rings in their earwax).

If a humpback ever happens to die and wash ashore, instead of sinking and/or getting devoured, that's when they can check the earwax. The warm waters of the breeding grounds and the cold waters of the feeding grounds apparently make for very distinct patterns.

Me, I figure that if I keep using q-tips, I might be able to pass for 29 (grow old, but never grow up). :D

Greetings PDP!

Anybody here use a "Stormjacket?" I was looking to step up from my shower cap and plastic bags, but was curious about what size to get -- the medium looked generally right, but I didn't want it to be to bulky on a smaller lens. I posted in the accessories forum yesterday, but haven't had any responses yet.

I use one. It's pretty handy in a heavy mist, but I wouldn't trust it in a downpour. If you can sew at all, I'd recommend that you buy a cheap rain coat, cut the sleeve off and put some elastic on each end. Then you have the $40 rain jacket for a couple of bucks. Might want to invest in some water repellant spray as well.

Love that shot! And I was on the bow -- in rolling 6 - 8 foot seas. That was actually pretty dry. The wet part of the vacation was when I was trying some landscape shots of a blowhole and some unusual lava formations. I picked the windiest days we were there (40 mph sustained with stronger gusts in the most exposed areas) to head down to the water. Made for some dramatic shots, but not so dry.

Thanks. 12/30/06 was a one in a million day for me at the coast. I was there looking for a Snowy Owl that had been lurking on the South Jetty in Newport. Didn't find the owl, but found the USCG playing in the surf.

Once, when wewere in the Lynn Canal near Anchorage (on a ferry) we were lucky enough to have the captain point out a pod of humpbacks feeding very close by. We ran outside in time to see them all come up to the surface with their giant mouths open full of krill, bayleens showing and the waters churning. It was the most awesome sight I ever saw.
The next day one humpback whale breeched about 7 times in a row right off the side of our boat. It was quite a rock'nroll show!

Seeing your state, town, or neighborhood on the TV is pretty weird at times - mainly on national news - when there are floods in our area that make it on the national news we always get phone calls from our east coast family wondering if we are floating away...

tommykjensen

Yes hopefully it will stop. more than 600 people have been arrested in the past few days and a lot have been put to jail for between 2 to 4 weeks. And many of the foreigners that have been arrested have been deported back to their own country since these unfortunately are among the hardcore activists.
