we're a fun and MOSTLY well behaved group over here :) heck, half the mod population visits us on a regular basis  so we must be doing something right!
So right that half the mods feel like they have to be over here keeping an eye on us?

LOL, I am shooting a huge wedding next weekend. 16 wedding party people, 200+ guests....the whole nine yards. So just now I get an email from the groom's mother asking if I wanted any "help" next weekend. And what did I need?
Yeah, right. I am bringing my own help........

Leatherman are great! I know the guy who designed the Wave ;-)
That's nice :)
The Wave, Charge and Squirt are my favorites. The Charge and the new Wave are pretty much the same thing except that one has exotic materials like Ti and 154CM in the blade.
Have all three, including an old Wave 2003 (pre-bit-kit version, the one with fixed screwdriver bits) at (real) home. I must admit I like the new lockup mechanism for the small bits on the new Charge though.

Yes, I have been beating the hornet's nest with a stick too (and not about a Mk3, about a very much more pedestrian topic).
However, I think there is one thing we can learn from the aussie bloke with the M3 - if you actually have any real, useful information, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. There are 2 kinds of people on the Internet, one who won't believe you, and the other who will put you down.
The 3rd kind are exceptions and those eventually become my friends.
I am teasing people about how I seem to be able to get results in low light without fast glass where others need a huge aperture. I actually can do this. But again, as I said, if I had any real info, I'd keep my mouth shut. The real explanation is simultaneously more complex and simpler than most people imagine.
One of my favorite sayings.......those who actually do know won't tell you. Those who will tell you don't know.

Don't forget - if you have a Gerber, use a stick!
Gerber Multi Purpose Tools used to be good before Fiskars bought them out. I have some of the old ones around. The MPT that I was using in that Sobe shot was not a Leatherman, but the MPT that I keep in my camera bag... the Swiss Army Knife's version of the MPT. I like it a lot.
I hadn't thought about that.......
I should have told her to make sure everyone brought their P&S cameras.
I thought of the perfect Wedding shoot.... As a gag, take all the members of the wedding party out to the mall and conduct all the shots in one of those Photo Booths where you get little strips of four shots. Get as many as you can done. Then scan the results into the computer and post them on the WF. ;)

Odd, I thought I recognized the distinctive curve of the Charge Ti's handles and the unique finish. Thought "It takes an owner to recognize one" - maybe I need another pair of L lenses to wear as the old eyes are going. Or Nikon lenses. My optician's been using Nikon lately :p

Them Amerikkans eess wierd.. we know that :p
Actually I've always felt like I am caught between both worlds - a stranger in both someone else's land.....and my own. I can definitely tell you half-and-half exists.
Better a stranger in my own though. The food, for starters, is awesome. And the camera shop is very much more accessible. :p
Aristotle, for example, focused on objects. A rock sank in water because it had the property of gravity, wood floated because it had the property of floating. He would not have mentioned the water. The Chinese, though, considered all actions related to the medium in which they occurred, so they understood tides and magnetism long before the West did.
No wonder I have never been able to 'get' object oriented methodologies. I look at systems as integrated systems. Very interesting; I need to forward this to some of the folks in the business.

Same thing existed back with the D30...couldn't use more than 2gb if you formatted in camera...but it had no trouble using my 4gb and later 8gb cards completely...as long as you formatted them on a computer.
Yeah, and the D60 - but that was stock FAT16 limits at 2 GB. This is more like WXP being unable to format FAT32 past 137 GB.

Someone is establishing a menagerie ;)
Also, thought I would tap RRTP's infinite wisdom on a computer-related problem.
My existing laptop is an old Dell that is going on 4 years old. You know how you've seen some lenses that have been truly chewed up by field use? Well that's my laptop, complete with cracks, dings, dents and assorted ugliness. Think the damn thing is beginning to crack up too, it's not built like a lens.
So I am thinking, should I basically duct tape it back together, spend a bit of $$ on replacing a couple of bits and pieces and hope the laptop survives until Christmas (when I can finally get rid of it), or buy a new one? Obviously, the risk is, if the laptop pops off halfway through, I could be left stranded and that is a truly nasty feeling.
OTOH, less money spent on computers means more $$ for glass :D

Hmmm... that is tough... Maybe buy some used not-so-great laptop to hold you over till Christmas?

Hmm - that's interesting. I know the Dell secondary market somewhat reasonably well, and I see a lot of D400's floating around. I like the D400 class because it is an ultralight laptop vs my D600 which is a midrange.
That sounds like an idea - buy and run two laptops, if my D600 eats it, then I can use the D400?
As for Dell....I know. They ain't exactly saintly. But better the problems I know, than the problems I DON'T....

Yea - something like that. And then when Chirstmas comes, sell both of the old ones to make a little money back.
Dell isn't half-bad. We buy their computers at our office and haven't had too many issues. For special purposes, like our GIS/mapping department I built the system from scratch so it had the best parts in there (and my laptop isn't Dell) -- but we really like their $400 NEW laptops - for people to do email and Word on - they do fine.

Thanks, I appreciate it.. I am now tracking a secondhand D400 local to me on ebay ;) and it's a price I can live with. Spend less on computers is my motto, every 3 years they depreciate to zero.
The cheap, almost expendable Dells make good throwaway computers for basic tasks. If they weren't almost 3kg, I'd buy one and use it that way too!
I've been a Dell customer since '96, one long unbroken string of laptops since then. They don't make 'em like they used to.....my favorite Latitude LM - a Pentium 133Mhz - was awesome :) (oh, and the damned thing weighed 9 pounds too!)
