Your sick! Obviously the reason we are kissing Belmondo's "owl hole" is so we get cut in-front of the Puddles and TD for the white lens collection... Hehehe - or maybe gravity was against us and we were just flung his way....

NOW GET BACK TO YOUR SQL!
I had to go back and find the TR that I missed, to get all that...

Better a planned wedding than a shotgun wedding.. now THAT would really be jumping the gun ;)

The two of you seem to get on so well (at least, your interpretation).. maybe others can tell.

Totally agree, I figure when I am ready it will happen. I want to wait until I feel it is financially responsible to do so. So basically once Uni is over.

Then there is the whole making sure she is the one part of it as well.

Quick question for the geeks on here-
By mistake I have two sets of data sorted together as one set :-(

example:
27,0,0,45.398115,-122.700395
27,0,0,45.41625,-122.6712
27,1,40,45.39784333,-122.7018667
27,1,45,45.416185,-122.672825
27,2,39,45.39752167,-122.7030583
27,2,47,45.41622667,-122.6708567

The good news is, I have one of the original sets - so I could provide:
27,0,0,45.398115,-122.700395
27,1, 40, 45.39784333, -122.7018667
27,2, 39, 45.39752167, -122.7030583

Anyone know any Excel VooDoo or some nifty Linux CLI command that would take one known set of data, and remove it from the set that contains two sets?

I think I am saying this clear enough ;-)

I assume you know how to program :p this is pseudocode since I can't be bothered to write real code. y'all will have your own favorite languages. I see the programming as a means to an end and not an end in itself.

read contents of your mismashed set into an array
read contents of your one original sets into 2nd array

loop through first array, for each item
compare it against 2nd array (loop thru the whole array to search the whole thing)
if a match is found do nothing
else copy the item into a 3rd array

dump the output - contents of 3rd array

Likely you will need two loops to manage this and hence the requirement to do it in code rather than just shell or Excel commands. Excel has VB though.

I must be in a stupid crazy mood. Normally I hate programming (although I can program decently well - I was lead engineer my organization's inventory/logistics management system.. 30K lines of code from me ALONE, not including the others), but I actually came up with an Excel macro that'll do it for you.

Alt-F8, create a new macro. Dump your superset into column A and fix my cell references as necessary. Dump your known original set into column B. This code will zero out all the unwanted elements in column A (blank the cells) allowing you to then retrieve your second original set.

Sub TestCode()
For Each c In Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:A10").Cells
For Each d In Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("B1:B5").Cells
If c.Value = d.Value Then
c.Value = ""
Else
End If
Next
Next
End Sub

Code supplied without any warranties. If it burns down your house or if it sets your cat on fire that's your problem. I unconditionally disclaim all responsibility.

The odd thing is that this afternoon I am writing pseudocode and designing object methods too. Maybe that's why I'm already in the correct frame of mind.

(as for why a NETWORKER is designing OBJECTS and wearing a system analyst's hat, ask the basket cases who are making me do this!! Oh let me go home, where the wireless roams.. :p (bastardized rendition of "home on the [WLAN] Range"))

YO-DA-MAN! (pun intended!)
I was already heading that way in PHP - but the Macro worked first ;-) -- I then had to find a way to do it PHP since I started it...

Also - GIGO, Garbage In, Garbage Out --- I was wondering why my PHP compare loops weren't working - turns out when I pasted it into a text file, it messed up the line-feed characters and my comparison data was all screwy.

Anyways - thanks again!

Yay http://pix.lightrefineries.org/img/dance.gif glad it worked out for you.

I like PHP too, I made the decision to use that as the basis of our applications platform at work. :) easy to use, easy to write, easy to maintain.

I do have a decent amount of Visual Basic/ASP.NET experience though, I sometimes need to write Windows GUI applications as well and that's where it comes in useful.

Java.. I am supposedly fully trained and certified. I remember nothing......NOTHING!! :p :p :p (except the trauma)

I started out on VB6 - but I found it had too many issues with interfacing with non-MS databases, so I switched over to PHP.

I took Java in High School - drove the teacher nuts. It was intro Java, but I had PHP knowledge. So, we had an assignment to basically print the numbers 1-100... he just wanted the students to copy and paste the same string over and over again changing the number...

Me? Well, I wrote a while-loop :-D I got an "A"

But I saw a good quote online, it went something like:
"Fine, Java MIGHT be a good example of what a programming language should be like. But Java applications are good examples of what applications SHOULDN'T be like."

Ohh yes. Most java applications I have run into is dead slow. For example the DB2 installer or Oracle installer.

I have always felt that Java was too 'theoretically perfect'. I have always argued with the computer science academics over the perfection of the ivory tower vs the ugly operational realities of the field. Java is too anal, it paints you into too many corners. PHP is a lot more lax and I like it. VB is sort of the middle ground in between either.

Only in the past couple of years have I had the pleasure of working with hardcore academia (doctorates and all) who acknowledge the field realities. In return I have been able to find a middle ground with them as well, acknowledging that there is a need for structure, architecture and patterns, but also ones that fit the actual needs.

Your while loop sounds like a heck of a timesaver, I hate cutting and pasting so many times ;)

My favorite slam - "Of COURSE Java runs everywhere.. because it runs on EMULATION everywhere! And y'all know what emulation does to performance.."

(not strictly true, but a dig at Java's virtual machine and 'run anywhere' philosophy).

The other one I liked is "Compile once, debug everywhere" - another slam on their 'compile once run anywhere' thing.

Oh, and like Grin, I finally did macro "the proper way" which involves a tripod, manual focus, remote release and the whole works. I was trying to take photos of a bulb filament. Now this little bulb is the size of a match head, so that necessitated full 1:1 macro. At 1/200 f/8 sync speed I was still shaking because of the sheer magnification, plus I was hunched over the table in a truly uncomfortable position.

The interesting 'texture' you're seeing is actually the fibers in the white writing paper I used as a background!!

I think I need more working distance too. *eyes 100 macro*

Maybe it is time to give up my 60 macro especially since I will no longer be able to take it with me to EF-only platforms? :(

Great paper texture.

Hmm, 100mm macro is good on a FF -- too big for a crop - I think you will be happy with it.

I use PHP for everything! I even use the command-line interpreter for shell-scripts instead of BASH under Linux.
I like being able to connect to my database to perform tasks on a server.

The only place where PHP didn't work for me was on my Asterisk server for my Asterisk scripts, I have to suffer through Perl - but it works out alright...

I started writing PHP out of interest - and that was AFTER I'd been traumatized by Java.. that says a lot for someone who vowed never to write a line of code ever again. There's a lot of benefits to this language. Again, in the field we value other characteristics over theoretical perfection, and this is one of the indisputable intrinsic benefits for me.

Same. I find PHP's language is more powerful than the various "sh" incarnations (I'm a tcsh user). Plus I already know it, so why reinvent the wheel?

In fact, my automated batch watermarker/resizer/whateverIwanttodo is written in PHP. It globs the filenames, calls ImageMagick repeatedly and feeds the files through it. All the photos you're seeing with my tag on it, including the macro of the bulb, go through this!

Wow... I thought my workplace blocked everything, but I can get to that one. It's just a parody lyrics site. Here's the lyrics:

I am having trouble driving,
Hotel is fifteen miles away.
I feel my bladder is a-tightenin',
I wish the urge would go away.

CHORUS:
Just sit and hold tight,
I won't unzip my fly,
There's a bathroom on the right.

I feel that the pain is growing,
I know I'm gonna let flow soon.
All I can think about is oceans,
My upholstery's about to be ruined.

CHORUS
Hold tight!

Wish I could hold it in forever,
But my willpower's starting to slide.
Looks like I'm gonna taint the leather,
But I'll hold until my kidneys fry.

My dentist is pretty good..

... at preventitive maintenance too!

I go in yearly, it avoids all of this crap further down the road. He's bailed me out quite a few times, we've spotted stuff that can be fixed swiftly and painlessly before it escalates into real bad stuff later. You folks seem to believe in insurance, well this is pretty cheap insurance. Less than $50 a visit too. (spares me the pain of $500 later down the road, plus pain in the teeth in addition to pain in the wallet!)

Wow - that took a lot of work. 9 shots on a film camera - took me, say, 30 minutes to use up... Digital - that would be 10 seconds... if that!

Now I want to get that roll developed! Some photos dating back 2-years....

I tried my 17-50 "digital only" -- hehe, I could see the vignetting in the viewfinder.

AF speed on the Rebel 2000 was pretty poor compared to th 20D - view-finder was REALLY cloudy and dark and poor - but it could just be that it is my Mothers camera and she didn't take good care of it.

Yea... probably a bit of both. That camera is 3 generations old as well (as far as the film rebels are concerned...) so the af is slower, but it is not like you are shooting sports or something :)

Good morning (or evening to you?) Stefan :) Yes, I was just amazed at the toddler shots especially...

Recently, I read a thread that says "what sets you apart from other photographers". For me, I'd have to say "nothing at present but I'm working on it" But someday, I'm hoping there'll be something that just "stands out" like that....I like it when I see something that just says "I'm different and my work is worth looking at".

23rd of May 2007 (Wed), 17:36
There's definitely a challenge to shooting birds. There's a lot to think about while panning a predator. I have to admit, some shots are very boring; I mean, a bird while flying across a blue sky isn't all that inspiring, especially when you have to cull through 200 shots of the same Osprey. However, sometimes you do capture that really cool shot of the bird hunting, or doing something you've never seen before, or having a shy bird suddenly come close enough for a portrait shoot.

I've tried not to limit myself to just birding. Sometimes I make myself keep the 17-50 on the camera, regardless of what is flying about, just so that I'm forced to think in a Landscape mindset.

Evenin' T.D!

Hey Riley.

Ouch.

Hi Chris. Welcome home.

Hey Puddle. Got your VM. Thanks! Wish I could have joined you. I'm now back in old form (watch out) so I'm up for outings.

My cell phone is up and running. Got it activated this morning. Just had to talk to a person in India and then wait 4 hours.

Hmm as far as outings go, are we still planning a trip to the NW trek?

I am still up for the NW Trek, but if we want to do something else you won't hear a complaint from me! I am game for the coast, the mountains, the valley, anywhere!

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the NW Trek 6.33.

you worry about fractions in that sort of thing . I was just wondering, I don't really care where we go. I am down as long as I am free.

No... You wouldn't be free - most people over age 2 cost some sort of admission ;-)

And 6.00 seemed too low, but 7 was too high ;-)
