Advice?

Flyers on car windshields?
Photo leaflet dropping over major sports events?
Pirating TV channels?
Using POTN by posting your shots on every thread you can come across?

Still thinking, I'll come up with more ideas in a moment...

Belmondo, in his smooth handling of the American language, completes a smooth segue from German Kim Chi and computer deliveries to gift spiral hams. Kudos to Tom!

Actually, we've got some fresh ham sitting in the 'fridge that I'm dying to cook...

You guys were discussing food (if one may consider kim chi or sauerkraut actual food), and it seemed relevant at the time. Clearly my timing was off, and my attempt to join the club was probably seen as nothing more than an intrusion. My apologies.

I will now go try to think of something sad. Sad stories seem to go over well here.

Actually, I appreciated the save from German Kim Chi. And sad? Sad is highly overrated, and only belongs in European cinema. As for your cat, well, I'll leave that to you. If you want an ugly pet, please refer to Lola, EJWebb's dog-thing. You are always welcome here, Belmondo. Smooth segues or no. :)

Where could you host your own gallery? I think Yoda does that and is very happy with his.
I hate the smugmug name as well but am so pleased with the service. I had a problem when I was setting it up and they got back to me in less than an hour with all the info I needed. I like the interface a lot...plus I like the option of the pro account if I ever want to upgrade.
Flickr never had the options that I wanted...I started there but didn't stay.
PP-i don't really want to staple photos in the neighborhood. it wouldn't serve the purpose of letting the kids see that I am shooting. they feel I am well, if I am shooting.

Permie- I could find a host somewhere and know someone who has his own server so could buy space from him and install the exhibit engine. Lots of work, though.

I'm trying not to think about ham. I am hungry and ham sounds yummy.
I served ham at my youngest's request over thanksgiving. I couldn't score a real virginia ham (his fave) but got a local one and it was tasty enough he didn't even ask. whew!!

I think I have a smal chunk in the freezer, but was wanting to make beans. I always forget to get stuff out in the am so I can cook at night. so tonight, I am drinking beer. aat least I get my B viatmins. Of course, if I am going to work on student stuff I should stop that and get real food. hmmmm

I think coq au vin is harder....buy some stove top stuffing and stuff your seasoned whole chicken with it...bake it according to the time on the back of the box and viola, a mini-turkey dinner. You can even buy gravy in a jar...

salt, pepper (maybe a little garlic salt or poultry seasoning...) Usually you season a chicken before you bake it.

Tyler (not a girl) was a hairdresser and stylist before he moved from Seattle and he's done quite a few of the girls' hair around here... there's not a whole lot of choices and the ones I called are really too expensive so, I asked Shane to ask Tyler Shane laughed and said as long as I let Tyler have some 'creative freedom' he would love to.. and then we started discussing payment terms and decided to trade...

I hate shopping. It's one of my least favorite things to do.

Oh my! I LOVE to shop. Today, I took one of my students to town and bought her some things for Christmas. I received some donations from others as it's well known how impoverished her family is. She got a few nice things and will receive more from some of the teachers on Wednesday. I already purchased some shoes for the child, since she hadn't had a new pair since 7th grade. She's a 10th grader now, btw.

I like potato chips.

Me, too. I'm eating some right now.

My flickr pro account is expiring on the 25th. Time to think of a new way to deal with this stuff. I have two domain names but no longer have a server. Could host my own gallery though, reup on flickr (not leaning that way at all) or do smugmug ( I hate that name!)

Advice?

I let my flickr "pro" account expire as I've almost come to hate that site. It's so fake. Everyone making BS comments on people's images just to get comments on their own. It's all a big popularity contest in which I no longer participate. I moderate a couple of groups, but that's all. And everyone seems to think they can just violate the copyright of others whenever they please. If you mention this in one of the groups, people become irate. So I deleted all but 160 images before the account expired and rarely add anything at all. Someday I'll just delete the entire account.
I have a Smugmug account and love their customer service. I'm preparing to purchase a domain name to get rid of the "smugmug" in the url, but continue to use them for hosting.

Where could you host your own gallery?

Bluehost is a good hosting service from what I understand.

My aunt was being dead serious and called to let me know that her friends husband would be willing to come up here with his big old truck whenever I say the word.. But, i'm not quite willing to ditch out on this idea... It's not the end of the world it's one little holiday... i've been to almost two dozen similar ones.. and I am trying to plot some kind of holiday for myself.. In my defense my mother is a Prof. in her own right.. she wasn't much of a cook when I was a kid.. as a teenager I was on my own and worked in restaurants (no point in cooking) as an adult I had other folks around to cook and I just learned to reheat stuff.. I suppose we can blame my non-cooking skills on my mother but, then again I was always grossly uninterested in the kitchen.. There always seemed to be something better to do..

But, baking is fun. I like making cakes and pies and cheesecakes it doesn't seem as monotonous as regular cooking...

Note to PP, um, could you PLEASE get her a venti Latte -- STAT?!!

While I generally agree with your sentiment, I have to tell you that I ran across a recipe for a whole chicken, cooked in a cooking bag, with fresh rosemary stuffed inside, salt and pepper. Then a few minutes in the microwave (10 or 17, I can't remember).

I've done this a few times. It's extremely moist and tasty.

So, don't knock it until you've tried it!

Drinking a whole bottle at one go tends to help you forget all but the worst of your problems. I have no idea what TWO will do though

It would make me hurl. I hate wine!

My mother never taught me because I was always with my father. I was daddy's girl and spent most of my time with him. I may not be able to cook, but I can work on a farm, do basic carpentry, shoot a weapon, and plant a garden.

I prefered spending time out with the men. I also cook though. makes it a pain. do a full day's work then cook supper. :(

I hate cabs.. just about everyone I've ever tasted... anything with too strong of a tannin taste goes out the window and anything too dry I don't like either... My mother didn't cook because it wasn't a priority for her.. My sister in self defense is a pretty good cook.. I was busy doing other things or finding other things to keep me out of the kitchen.. I am very good at dishes though... :D

hehe.. really? can you cook the whole thing in the microwave?.. sounds nice and easy how do you do it?

Get a microwave cooking bag, a whole chicken and whatever whole, fresh herbs you like (like rosemary, oregano, etc). Put the herbs inside the bird. Put the chicken in the bag, per the instructions and microwave. You'll have to check the bag instructions for the time. I think it's 17 minutes. But I can't remember for sure. (depends also on your microwave's power).

Be careful when you open the bag, because the steam will pour out. It's very good and moist.

Good luck!

(can you tell I'm single and have to cook for myself?!)

I should take a picture of my oven baked boneless chicken fillet, marinaded in chilli and lime with lemon and herb spices.

Sounds tremendously complex - it is not (recall I am lazy)

Grab chicken, stuff it in plastic bag. Pour chilli sauce (one specific kind) into bag. Crush the lime in and pour in the lemon/herb seasoning. Seal bag and massage the chicken a bit, throw in freezer. Five minutes, longest part is taking the caps off the bottle. Leave for 24 hours.

Eat time: Dump chicken in baking tray on top of foil, slam in oven, ~30-40 minutes (guesstimate it) at 215C. Go back on POTN for those minutes. Rant about how bad day was. Chicken should be done shortly.

Belmondo, in his smooth handling of the American language, completes a smooth segue from German Kim Chi and computer deliveries to gift spiral hams. Kudos to Tom!

Actually, we've got some fresh ham sitting in the 'fridge that I'm dying to cook...

Now that my friend is ham...if it isn't fresh...it isn't real ham...poke a few holes in it...insert fresh cloves of garlic....then make a nice crust on the outside with coarse salt and fresh ground pepper...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmm

Do you put the garlic on top of the ham or somehow attach it to the ham?

PG has been too quiet.. power outage in her sector again?

You take a sharp knife and make a series of slits in the fresh ham or pork roast....press a slice of garlic into each slit. Next you rub the outside with some high quality extra virgin olive oil and then with a mixture of coarse salt, fresh ground pepper and granulated garlic. Place it on a wire rack in a baking pan...350 degrees until the meat thermometer shows 150...in the very center. Remove from oven and let rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

it would seem that no one here has tried a pavlova, so here is the recipe.

it tastes nicer than ham, but then it's a desert ;)

Nice.. it sounds pretty easy actually. Let me get this, 350F, right? That should be doable.. 180C on my oven. It maxes out at 250C, that's why.

I might get a small ham and try this, after all I am just one person eating.. it is nice to have someone to share it with but that's not always feasible or possible at each station in life. However, food *IS*, has, and always will be a priority.

Granulated garlic - that the dried powder kind?

Yes....temperature in F...just make sure you do this with fresh ham or pork roast....don't think it would taste too hot on cured ham. Granulated garlic is sometimes called garlic powder.

Thanks, I will pick up a pork roast and garlic powder (that's what it's called here). Can't imagine it on cured ham.. yeek..

I'm getting hungry and I just ate. :p

PS: To others, check your temperature scales. 350C would result in a very fiery ham which does not taste so hot after you hose it down with a BCF fire extinguisher ;)
