I am all for taking little trips...especially those that give you fresh things to shoot. Never know when you might run across more cows in monkey suits!
Besides...it gives you a chance to recharge your batteries....and that my friend, is always a good thing.:D

Cool :D I think I just needed a push in the right direction. If I see any more cows this time I WILL pull over, and I am taking the 1-4 so their black and white markings will be resolved, CA-free and color-separation-free :D

Last cow I shot had CA at 100%, green on the left and reddish-purple on the right. Let's see what a chunk of 77mm flourite can do!

I plotted everything on GPS.. total driving distance will be nearly 500mi across the weekend. So if I don't show up on POTN, do worry, for the cow might just be after me....

Woolburr
23rd of November 2006 (Thu), 06:16
500 miles is a nice jaunt....should be plenty of fresh scenery and you will probably get the chance to see several of Wu's closest friends. The only cow I do at 100% these days is the stuff going on the grill....I hardly ever worry about CA on my steak. I wonder what fluorite tastes like? rofl

Lightstream
23rd of November 2006 (Thu), 06:30
I was actually trying to make out whether the cow's suit was really a suit, or whether it was natural, as we debated.. 100% was called for, for analyzing subject detail rather than CA, which was noticed incidentally :D

And lemme guess....you're a salt and pepper and horseradish guy, right? (the purists say steak should only be eaten with S&P)

On my way back I plan to pick up something unusual:
http://www.heineken.com/usa/cc/usa/draftkeg/index.asp

It'll make a great conversation piece and photographic subject. (AFTER I finish the contents) Wu would love it.

mmmmm garlic. A properly grilled steak is awesome.

Beer is good, am having some now (night in my sector). More of the Kilkenny stuff. Them Irish sure know how to make it.

Can't beat a nice thick steak...grilled to perfection...melts in your mouth..yum

I'm afraid our tastes in beer varies a wee bit...the Irish make good potatoes....their beer leaves a lot to be desired. Jever Pilsner from Germany or Labatt's Blue from Canada....are a bit more to my liking.

Ahh..... I am still a barbarian drinking the entry level stuff, forgive me ;)

The specialty beers I miss the most are made by a little micro in the Far East. One occasionally wonders how 'micro' they are when you sit next to the 5000 liter tanks, but then again, having visited an industrial scale brewery with vats that make water towers look like water bottles, I guess they are micro in comparison.

As far as I know you can't find the beer anywhere, you have to actually go down and buy it. Right now 'go down' involves a 747-400 or 777 Longreach. Not exactly a day's drive.

I never really liked stout, but this place came up with an oatmeal stout to die for. Hints of chocolate and coffee, rich and black, and their signature taste common to all their beers......WOW. Now that is beer. You have to drink it to believe it.

UGH......just thinking of it makes my current beer taste like crap....that's how good it is...

Worse, I knew I should have picked up the Heineken keg when I first saw it, now I REALLY feel like I want one, and it's late at night and I can't get it!

One of the micro-breweries here specializes in Oatmeal Porter. An occasional glass or two is very tasty...don't think I could do a steady diet of it though.

Anyway, I am thinking of taking a road trip for a couple of days this weekend, take some photos, drive a scenic route.. etc.

Dya think that's a good idea? Part of me is tempted to just hide at home and sleep, but that also strikes me as tremendously unproductive.

going somewhere is always a good idea... where did you have in mind?.

Whereas I agree it's a waste of good beef, it's not his place to tell people how they should eat their steaks. For 45 year I've been defending my wife's right to eat her steaks well done, and it's tiresome being hassled by culinary snobs. FWIW, I eat mine rare/medium rare, but also know that some people get physically ill at the thoughts of eating meat with eve a hint of pink in it.

I think that is how you are supposed to recognize him as a chef....throwing fits and complaining about people's tastes in food. You are right Tom....some people have a physical aversion to rare meat....my ex didn't like to sit with me when I had steak or prime rib....said it spoiled her meal.

Well I guess it is good to surprise people in a positive way. :)
Yes it is a mirror shot. The camera is a Canon FTb. No, I don't have it any more. It disappeared when my ex headed to California. Used to have a huge film camera collection- all well used and loved by me- TLRs, some 35mm of various brands, a couple MF setups. Some disappeared with him, some the kids took, some I sold for grad school. I only have my first rollei left.

Hope everyone had a good day too. we are getting ready to pull supper from the oven. Everything smells heavenly and the beer is cold and tasty.

I'm back, and I'm stuffed. My mother really outdid herself this year. We had chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, candied yams, oyster dressing, corn, lettuce and cauliflower salad, beef roast, pies, etc, etc, etc. She loves to cook and always has a great meal.

I got the scanner up and running but am having trouble with the damn thing. I'm going to try again here in a little while and see if I can't post some pics of me from a different era. ( No, not the Paleozoic one.) :)

Everything I do in the kitchen is just a form of self-defense. That's the one room in the house where my wife has no business going. People would die.

Since it's just the two of us, if we want homoe-cooked meals, that leave moi. I don't do a lot of it---mostly breakfast and an occasional dinner. Neither one of us is undernourished, so I must be doing something right.

Shortly after my wife and I were married, we moved back to Pennsylvania near her family. Holidays were very big then, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. We usually spent them at her aunt's or grandmother's homes, and there were dozens of people in attendance. Now, we live on the opposite coast, and most of the relatives are no longer with us. In fact just about the only survivors are the two of us, and my mother-in-law's recipes. These holidays are bittersweet, especially for my wife.

that would be militant ZOMBIE turkeys....

MUCH different than just the Rambo kind...(those you just keep signing to movie sequals and they'll leave you alone)...the zombie ones are a force to be reckoned with...

And darned hard to find. They keep throwing those sharp star thingys as you try wrassle down to the ground. At least the undead turkeys just kinda lurch about.

I guess I'll let you play with my white balance any time.

You know, I'm so tempted to make a smart ass, off color remark to this.

It is better to receive than to give! Bah humbug.

I like the way you think!

I guess I just need to find some cute feminines?

Better get out there and circulate! No doubt you'll find someone in no time. :)

I think the turkeys come from everyone having a "bit too much" of our beverages today...(of course the ninja zombies are a product of totally normal thought processes...)

Oh, almost forgot something. I just took my younger son to my mother's house to spend the night because I have a CT scan at 6:30 tomorrow morning. On the way back home, I saw what was probably the largest buck deer I've ever seen in my entire life. He had a huge rack, too. I wasn't able to count all the points before he bounded off into the woods.
