yo, good to see you back here. Congrats on the move.

You site looks good mark, but I'd get that 404 problem fixed with your "About" on the main page. ;)

One other observation is that when you go into each year, then the banner only says e.g. 2006, but there is no obvious name branding. In contrast your 2003 gallery at least says "Mark Cuthbert - 2003" - this approach might help keep your name in mind with the viewers.

You have some stunning photos too btw. :)

Yoda,
Yeah, bad days at work suck. I finally felt a bit fresher yesterday. I had a nice shower, got my hair somewhat nice, put on make up and felt fresher than for the past two weeks. I've looked like crap for two weeks.

Picked up the keys to the flat yesterday, moving van on Sat, but not sure when I'll actually sleep there yet. Probably some time next week I guess. Or at least from the 2nd weekend of Feb.I went there this morning and took some pics. :) God, I need a wideangle for interior shots! They're crap. lol

Here are the crappy shots I took of the flat. Just really high ISO (the lighting is crap), no decent wide angle (kit lens), but it gives a sense of the flat.

It's nice to do something for yourself. And yes I saw the suggestions from Wool & Co :p

Me.. I just pour myself a double JB Black and Coke.. repeatedly. I'm feeling a little better. Plus I took some shots with my new 30D. It sorta reminds me of why I fight the not-so-good fight.. to ensure I can buy a few extra bits and pieces of camera gear when I want to (although this purchase was funded by a gear sale so minimal net outlay)

This is a nice place. I have seen many a rental property while house-hunting during my current posting. Now that was a harrowing experience. I saw some places where they wanted a ridiculous amount of money.. that were just so bad. Heating systems that looked like something my grandparents would have used. Places that smelled like something died in there. I drove off - and the smell followed. Turned out that the flyer the agent handed me had been sitting in the kitchen - until the paper smelled like it had died too. Damn this house hunting business. No more intl' misadventures for me. Oh at least AIR IT OUT before you start showing people round the house.....geez.....

When I got my current place.. I was so damn glad.. I moved out (from a friend's place.. now not-so-good-friend after their mishandling of an incident).. was so damn glad to have my own place that I just slept on the floor, uncomfortable as heck it was, but I was that keen to move out. Yes, Ikea is your friend. Surprisingly, despite coming from Sweden where everything is so expensive, out here, they are one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest way to outfit a pad with quality and very functional furniture. At home REALLY home, my Ikea desk is almost as old as I am. Held two 17" CRT monitors without breaking a sweat. Beat to heck.. and just the way I like it. Sometimes the best thing about home is that NOTHING has changed.

I also did have the presence of mind to take a few shots. 5D, 17-40, mostly at 17mm UW (that'd be a 10mm on yours). So I can relate to the need for a WA. If you have flash, point it straight up at the roof and bounce it. Works great.

Claire

The place is fine. Some of the London places were awful! Not to mention smaller & more expensive. I'm paying about £293 less for this place than my Paddington place, which was the size of this living room.

Nice :)

For me it came down to this....the place I finally nailed vs the second best option. The difference between the two places, I swear, was like the difference between first class and the cargo hold. The second best option was OK on the interior, and hopeless on the exterior. The place I finally got was heaven-and-earth difference for a fraction of the cost PW more, plus all kinds of extra benefits, nice new modern place, properly managed and run. I showed up and told the agent that we can sign right here, right now... done deal. I always wondered whether I got an awesome deal - or whether the second best option was priced WAY out of its depth.

Vodka drinks are easy to make. You need a nice shaker though. I do not know about Austrailia, but here they sell Rose's cocktail mixers (cranberry, apple, mango, watermelon and so on). All you do is mix one part Vodka (I recommend Grey Goose, Belvadere, Level, stay away from Smirnoff) and one part Rose's in the shaker. Shake it up, and strain into a frozen glass and enjoy ;)

They drank Chivas Regal from the bottle. I remember one .. 'incident'.. someone's birthday, so we all snickered and said, for a change, YOU (birthday boy) are gonna buy the drinks!

He said sure, but the rest of you fewls are gonna drink it the way it's gonna be drunk..... no kidding.... fire in the hole, STRAIGHT from the bottle! DANG!! Think we had 4 bottles and 20 people. I can tell you your math skills go to heck pretty quick in these circumstances. :P

But you see, at least my guys drank the *GOOD* stuff, which is tasty and doesn't ONLY burn as it goes down.

Very interesting.. I'll keep an eye open for those. You are a good dude.. Goose rocks!!

We drank a lot of Smirnoff in the bad old days. Absolut, Stolichnaya (to this day I can ID it from taste alone) were par for the course.

What I really remember was Wolfschmidt - I've never actually seen this vodka again outside of the watering holes we used to frequent. What set it apart was that it was practically tasteless, which was odd. I can definitely tell you it was no slouch in the firepower department though.. 40% and it made every percent count when it went straight to your head.

If I have learned anything about Alcohol, it is to buy the better stuff. We like Tequila alot. Jose Cuervo and Sauza taste like piss water. Its all about Revolucion and Patron. Vodka is the same way, the higher end Vodka's really do taste better and are so much smoother than the prosumer brands

Oh yeah, definitely! I still drink to get floored (occasionally.. rarer nowadays but some days it all gets to me), but I do have a preference for the good stuff. JB/JW has to be the black label stuff, none of this crap red/white. Red and white only look good on Canon's, where they denote the ultra premium stuff. It is a bit like L. Some get it, some don't.

Goose owns me.. a friend of mine basically shoved me in that direction and I have no regrets.

Once upon a time I was 18* and so were my guys though...those were the smirnoff and red bull days. Red Bull has the aftertaste from Hell I can tell you that.

Naww.. I seldom get that far, though I have seen some truly extraordinary cases. One of my favorite quotes was.....

"How do you tell your best friend from your good friends? Well, your good friends let you cry on their shoulders when you're down. Your best friend lets you throw up on his pants when you're down. GAWD DAMMIT, I'M NOT YOUR BEST FRIEND!!"

(too late for the pants though.. yup....I got nailed :p)

My guys were roughly evenly split. So ribena vodka for half of us (I'm the ribena camp as you can tell), vodka RB for the rest. Maybe I need to buy Goose and ribena tomorrow on my way back from work. Is it coincidence or engineering that three of the big liquor stores are on my way back from work?

Oooh, Bacardi is powerful too. For me, I remember throwing up. Later I was propped against a door, and then dragged out thru said door to a wall. Someone was asking me if I needed a plastic bag, which I declined. Ahh those were the days when I could take it. But I'll never do that again.

Friend hosted dinner once and someone else brought the wine, and we all had a drink. Nice old 1996 'vintage'.

On New Years Eve, we hosted a party for about 20 drunken free loaders. I was the bartender. I had Smirnoff for the group and my Grey Goose under the bar for the wife and I. At most parties, the people want to get drunk, thats it

Yessir, that is pretty much it.....I only drink to get hammered during the bad days, otherwise I really take my time and sip the quality stuff. Good call on the 'mixed drinks' though

Wish I had a significant other who bothered to go that extra mile for me.. usually I am on my own.....

LOL, gotta love the boxed wine ;)

I remember when I was in college. Boxed wine. Wow. At least my Heineken mini-keg is classy, and very photogenic - it responds well to a ST-E2/430EX bounced against an umbrella.

Boxed wine is very popular over here. Is it like that in other countries as well? I just find it practical with many people, but oh so not classy. lol

Over here you get the cheap crap in boxes. As Calico pointed out.....great for parties when people want to get hammered double quick. They also get a double dose of hammered - wake up next morning and tell me how you slept...

A good host/hostess keeps the box of wine out of sight...serves from a nice carafe. The guests have no idea what they are drinking. ;)

Not the college kids. "HEY MATES, HELP YOURSELVES!!!!" *points at the row of boxes on camp tables*

I was one of them....... many years ago.

Those days are dead..... (betcha you can finish the rest of the sentence for me). I'm working to ensure they *STAY* dead. Didn't help the movie "I Know What You Did Last Summer" screened during those days. (for those who don't get the connection: the tagline is "When you kill the past, make sure it STAYS dead")

Cheap wine? I got one good horror story.

Friend hosted dinner once and someone else brought the wine, and we all had a drink. Nice old 1996 'vintage'.

Tastes funny.. no, tastes really bad. Like, really f$#ing bad.

I gave myself a good excuse, snuck into the kitchen and washed the glass, thinking the idiot didn't know how to wash a glass properly. Went back, refilled the glass.

Gawd dammit, it's not the glass.

Yes, that foul.

The problem with "vintage" wine is you can end up with one of three things...in the best scenario, you end up with a taste sensation extraordinaire...in the not a total disaster scenario, you end up with a nice wine vinegar....the last choice sounds like your experience....drain cleaner!

I had my 23rd birthday and decided to actually celebrate it. Party with about 20 people. Lots of dancing and singing. I got sooo much wine from people. The table was filled and I had wine bottles in my room for weeks. What can I say? I'm not a big drinker and a cheap drunk.

Cool :) I and most of my crew are very tame, happy drinkers. Some people get very aggressive when under the influence, most of the rest of us are quite happy to take it easy - even if we've had a sh|t day, once we have sufficient (keyword: SUFFICIENT) drink inside us we tend to pipe down and stop making so much noise.

Wasn't even fit for vinegar. Mom loves premium balsamic vinegar and passed that taste on to us.. this 'wine' or excuse for wine tasted something like a glass that's been used for god knows what and never washed...

There was a worry that we might not get sufficient photos in order to shortlist them for the public vote, but there has been a late surge, and a satisfying amount have been received. The option to extend the date was discussed in the event that we needed more submissions, and so the "open" status is more just because the web page has not been updated yet to change that status.

You have to understand something...we had a whole 1.5 inches of snow...that is enough to paralyze this place...snow removal and more so ice control is not something that happens in North Carolina. When the weather gets bad...you just sit until the sun comes out and clears it up enough for you to travel safely.

Hmmm.. I guess Texas was like that as well. Cracked me up every time it happened though. 1" and the town was in a tizzy with 24 hour emergency coverage. Here is Chi-town we shut down somewhere between 12-20 inches though we have not had open like that in a long time. I think its about time I trade in my snow skis for some water ones and head on south.

We have two interesting days here in northern Illinois. The first big snow. It is funny to see all of the vehicles in the ditches. Most of them are 4 wheel drives or SUVs with the occasional sporty car thrown in. Folks just get to trust their 4 wheels and forget that 4 wheel drive does nothing when things get real slippery and so drive way faster than they should. And the first big rain after a long dry spell. There you have all kinds of spin outs and it’s almost always a sporty European car. I guess they also forget that that nice handling you get on dry pavement goes away when it rains and those weeks of that oil film that’s been building rises to the top of the water again making it slippery.

Going through photos is really crazy. All these people who passed by in your life. Friends, acquintances, ex-friends, ex-boyfriends etc etc.

The other month I found my final project for Video Production class. Damn it's crap, but we had such an awesome time doing it! And one of the clips has my ex in a short silver miniskirt, white blouse with knot in front & fake tits. He did a washing liquid and for my friend & me. My friend kept laughing like mad at my bf & asked me why I don't look as nice in a miniskirt. Damn, we had fun!

Send some snow this way. Can’t ski on one inch. Today it actually UN-snowed. That is it snowed real hard for almost 2 hour, but when all was done, we had less than before. It’s just too cold for good snow to form I guess. Can it really un-snow? Maybe it’s just all blowing onver to one guys house and they have one huge drift. ;)

It's Chewie... The only dancing guy I have. You have to excuse me, right now I am still in techno-euphoria. It's been over a month, maybe a lot longer since we had any decent throughput. Took 4 trips of the tech guys and I had to twist their arm to replace the modem.

Nice. We've had up to 8 of those red-tails at one of our feeders fairly regularly. Guess we must be offering the right stuff to attract them.

Beautiful red tail, Jon! They love the thistle.

my redtails are mad. they have gone through their food already this morning!

Mine get that way too. They can really go to it when they swarm in. I had 9 this weekend. I've seen as many as 20 fighting for space on the feeder.

Just depends on when the big talkers show up.

:p I thought Perm was already here!! ;);)

I was excited 20% off down in the valley so I got a good deal plus, their girl shoes. gotta love the girly snowshoes... now, I can go walk out on the lake. I'm excited!!..

That's so sweet & innocent! ;);)

I expected the fanfare and hoopla of multitudinous posts upon my return from school.

I dig the dancing Chewie!
