Can anyone suggest good photo archiving software... a way to keep track of digital photos as they multiply into the thousands, and may be scattered across several hard drives? I've been using Image AXS, which works well when it works, but is quirky, and loses track of the original file too often. Don't need editing or other features... Photoshop does that just fine.

My vote goes to ThumbsPlus www.cerious.com. If you need more power look at iMatch www.photools.com.

The absolute best archiving software out there is this one...........
http://www.pictureflow.com/
Not only will it make a full index of all images, it will then organize your images into the number of CD's required for storage and continue on to burn each CD......it also verifies that each file has been safely burned to the CD's. They are also preparing for an update that will allow for archiving DVD's also. Check it out.....after using many others, this one is the best! Vickie

How is THUMBSPLUS for handling Canon's RAW files? I want to burn my original RAW files to CD, and extract Tiff as needed. Also, Does it carry the EXIF info for each image? thanks, Brian

Brian,

It archives them just fine. There's a free plug-in that must be downloaded (if I remember rightly).

The EXIF image is carried, but if you want to have the EXIF data in the actual T+ database so that you can query it, you must define user fields for the assorted bits of data you want. This is a pretty simply process, and it is also easy to modify the database structure and reprocess already loaded image files to refresh the database.

It handles offline CD's. If you want to look at an offline image, T+ prompts for the CD to be inserted. However, T+ cannot (unless I've missed something) do the actual conversion from raw.

That's a big oops, Henk. :) Archive Creator comes from the YarcPlus stable: http://www.pictureflow.com/ArchiveCreator/Pages/AC-Main.html
