View Full Version : Which 2nd Body for OSH ... 40D or 5D ?

Heading to Oshkosh and I'm kind of on the horns of a dilemma.

I am taking the following glass:

- 300mm f/2.8
- 70-200 f/2.8
- 24-70 f/2.8
- 17-40 f/4
- 50 f/1.4
- 1.4X TC and 2X TC

I am taking a 1DMkIII with two batteries but which body do I pair with the MkIII?

If I go MkIII + 40D I give up the FF wideness of the 5D
If I go MkIII + 5D I give up the "reach" of the 40D

Having never been to OSH before, I don't know if I'll spend more time up close to subjects or if I should treat it more like a traditional air show where I know I'll want the reach.

What's a photographer to do? ???

Any and all suggestions welcome...

I'd take the 5D cuz on the 17-40, that's wide as hell and planes are pretty big up close and personal

I'm leaning 5D...

I rarely try to capture an entire plane (I tend to key on details, shapes, textures, etc...) but since everything is parked so tightly at OSH, I don't want to have to back up all the time.

I think 5D is the best option.

Thanks for weighing in

I'm leaning 5D... Me, too. When I shot film, the 20mm was one of the lenses I liked most.

Agreed...

The 5D wins out.

"See" everyone when I get back. Pics to come for sure. Using a Hyperdrive while traveling so won't be posting from site.
