Quick capture of my dear wife - reading instructions for her new acquisition. Getting photos of her is not easy!

I just wish I'd used a slightly smaller aperture so as to give it a bit more DoF :(

I think the DOF is perfect. You've isolated her from what would otherwise be a very busy background.

Nice off the cuff portrait.

See Guys, they do RTFM... ;)

Thank you :) Very new to "people" shots (with a camera anyway :p )

Oh yes. She reads manuals - I don't tend to - unless the item is expensive!

Sorry... I'm a manual reader too... I agree with flyingphotog too... I don't think you'd want a larger dof. This shot has your wife sharp and the bg blurred... perfect... Thanks for sharing

Yep, you nailed the focus where it needed to be and minimized a distracting background. I love candids.

Thanks all :) Just can't believe the difference decent glass can make! xD

Great natural portrait. Well done:)
The DOF is fine.

I agree that the DOF is perfect. It's a good photo, worth the risk of life & limb.

LMAO! Good guess on the risk factor!!

I enjoy special images and this one of them. Hope she appreciates it also. Photos should enhance and not embarrass--you did very well. I tried a quick edit with a little brightness, a touch of sharpening, a touch of contrast and a crop to limit the amount of white in the background. But I was just experimenting on my laptop with no calibration. You did well and no editing was necessary--just my playing around. Hope you can get some more of the wife--the camera likes her.

Thank you (from both of us!). I have to admit that I do prefer the closer crop and the edit - although I would probably use a little less sharpening (as I really do like my anatomy undamaged :p ).

I'll have more of a play in post based on your edit - thanks again :)

As to more photos - I'm afraid that SWMBO is very much a "candid" subject - I've never gotten a "posed" photo of her that looks good yet!

If it were me, I would brighten her face and arms a little as they look dark on my monitor, sort of what PsychProf did for an edit.

Fair enough - I'm using a laptop monitor (allegedly calibrated!) - so it looks "ok" - but yeah, I plan on giving that a go. Thanks :)
