Hello,

I was contacted yesterday by a woman who would like to do a budoir session for her husband who is currently deployed. Any tips would be helpful. Also, I am looking into buy a new lens. Any suggestions? Thanks!

When I asked for lens suggestions. I have been looking at the 50 mm and the 85 mm and am not sure which would be best for this situation. Thanks!

Well the lens choice will depend alot on the setting and room you have to move. To get the most flattering photos the longer lens will give you less distortion and be more flattering. Now that said others will have their own opinions but that is the most commonly held opinion. I personally use an 85 1.2 mainly and sometimes a 100 macro and the 70-200 if the setting allows. If its in my studio it does if its the client home usually not. So you may be best off buying a good 50 I wouldn't go shorter than that.

The shoot will be in 6 weeks in her home. We agreed that she would be more comfortable there. Ok, thanks for the info, I will probably end up getting the 50.

then go for the 50 f1.4, not the 1.8. The 1.4 focuses better, and gives you an extra stop of light. You didn't say what kind of lighting, but it can be cool to shoot window light and a reflector, if her house permits. Or any other house for that matter.

The shoot will take place in her bedroom which she said has french doors so I was planning to use the window lighting from those. Thanks for the advice on the 50.
