Hi!
I wonder if you could help me with this issue:
I am a satisfied owner of a 300D but I am thinking of switching to a used 10D or 20D. My problem: does anybody know which models are required to be able to switch focus dial from the usual index finger dial to the thumb dial on the back of the camera? I always use only the center focus spot to avoid misunderstandings between me and my camera. Often I have the focus spot in another part of the caption than the center, and I would like to have the light metering on the index finger and the focus on the light meter dial on the back. I know it is possible to make this switch on the 1D cameras, but is it possible on cheaper models as well? That would make the choice for me next time I upgrade. Would love to hear if anyone knows anything.

I know the 10D has this capability, so I presume the 20D does as well. The catch is it is more limited then the 1D series from what I remember. I never used it, although I remember playing with it when I first got my 10D, seemed more effort then it was worth and I tended to use the center point anyway more often.

Try this thread. I believe it is exactly the function you are describing.

You use the word dial...

Do you mean the Focus "button" used to make your camera autofocus?

Or are you referring to switching focus points using the "dial"?

Both 10D and 20D will alow you to focus using the reaer * button with your thumb.

The 20D however has by far the best way of selecting AF "points" using the eraser head like "multicontroller"

Thanx guys! Sorry, of course I meant "buttons"... so, I guess my 300D has to go. I'm thinking of getting a used 10D, they are quite cheap these days. I know some of you don't like the feature, but I really find it anoying not to be able to track an object in the viewfinder without getting new exposure all the time (unless you lock it, but I like the other way around). I found the thread about the issue. /belker
