Finally, I managed to play around a bit with my manual focus Jupiter 9 85/2.0 lens (M42).
Got some nicely focused shots of my 2-year old son, Felix, playing with his cars close to the window (natural light).
I quite like the result ... although the crop is not optimal in my opinion.
All comments are welcome :D
Shutter speed: 1/800 sec
Aperture: 2.8
Exposure compensation: +2/3
Flash: Off
ISO: 400
Focal length: 85,0mm

Andy, That Jupiter seems to be a nice sharp lens. :D
I was following your other thread with great interest, where you mentioned using these great old lenses on an EOS DSLR via T-Mount(?) adapters.
Nice to actually see an example of what they can do. ;)

It is an M42 to EOS mount. Similar to T-mount, but a different threading.
The difficult thing is to get manual focus right ... and I was lucky in this one (not very high keeper/photo ratio)
Still, this is better than most images I have gotten with my 50/1.8 so far, mainly because the Bokeh is nicer.

Andy

I'm thinking this is the same adapter I'm using with my Zenitar "FISHY" lens then, as it has the M42 mount as well. :D

This reminds me, I MUST get that Zenitar out and experiment with it. I'm sure I'll have a high percentage of non keepers in the first go around with it.

And thank you both for your kind comments!

PS: I am doing something wrong.
Once I post a photo, it still turns into a lens discussion thread

KevC, Marie, Ayotnoms,
Thanks :D
Yes, my wife is the one responsible for the good looks.
Here's an image of her with our second son, Christoph!

:o I had to promise her that I would also let our second son have a bit of the attention.
She claims that I always favour Felix ... so there he is!
EDIT ... OK, for the gear freaks ... this was taken with my boring ole' Tamron 28-75/2.8.
And it was before I realized that if I use my MZ40 flash as manual flash on the 20D, I can actually turn down the output

Doc ...
I think the lenses are ok as long as the makers are drunk ... things get troublesome when they sober up now and then

Nice pictures Andy!! The first one of Felix shows the excellent colour and sharpness that these lenses have..........You are right about the MF making the ratio of keepers/discards very low. But that is the great thing about digital!!:D

Fer ... thank you! I appreciate your comment :D
Michael ... Thank you! (OK, talking lenses again  )
I also took some with the Sonnar 135, of course. But I have to find out the best ones (keeper ratio  ) and post process them.
The one from the Jupiter I posted just 'stood out'.

Andy

Wareseeker ... thank you for your kind words.
I mentioned ... it was before I found out that if I use the flash 'all manual' I can also manually adjust its strength :o
Before I just adjusted the aperture and set FEC -3 on the flash (which of course did not do much)
Marie ... thank you very much :D
Just for you, I include an action shot.
It's called 'Feed me!'
Canon EOS 20D + EF 50/1.8
f/3.5, 1/40 s, ISO 1600
RAW, conversion with BreezeBrowser/Canon plug-in with Smart noise reduction
Resize, selectively applied USM in PS Limited Edition

Like the feed-me shot a lot; I am sure you will be more pleased with the 50F1.4 when you take similair shots with it!!
ps.......I can tell you're German because your wife is wearing her wedding band on her right hand. When we came to Canada, my wife and I switched to the left hand because so many people asked if we were engaged. Didn't realise that people noticed your hands so often!!

Thank you for your feedback!
This was actually one of the better shots with the 50/1.8, as the background does not have harsh contrasts, so the bokeh is not too distracting.
But I am sure I *will* like the 50/1.4 better :D
I hope my wife won't notice the difference, though
My wife and I actually forgot on which hand the wedding band normally is worn in Germany/Rest of the world. But since nobody mentions it to us in Germany, I guess we are wearing them German style

Marie, most likely showing these is at least as much fun for me than looking at them is for you :D

Thank you, CMM 8)
I'll see if I have also something usable I shot with my CZJ 135/3.5 lens ... that would complete my lens showoff (apart from my soon-to-be-received 50/1.4 ... but you know that one already, right  )

Liza ... yes ... on one hand you want them to develop as fast as possible (they are still to small to take pictures yet  )
... on the other hand you love them so much at that age ... especially as you know it's not going to get any easier with keeping them at bay
Thanks for commenting :D

Well, my wife and myself normally do not get too much sleep ...
she because she very often has to breast-feed our youngest in the middle of the night ...
... myself ... well, you can figure that one, right
OK ... I'm off to bed now.
