Hi all,
I'm not overly happy with this shot. The sky is washed out and, because of the positioning of the nest, it's not the best of angles. This was the only angle I had.
I'm using an A70 - it was on auto at the time. What did I do wrong with the sky? It should have been a nice blue, cloudless, sky?
Any tips would be appreciated. :)
Thanks
Daf

If I had to guess I would say you focused on the behive which is a lot darker than the sky and got a good exposure reading for the beehive which washed out the sky. It is a typical back-lit subject I believe and would have been a prime candidate for a fill flash - if you dared use one. Barring that you could shoot two, one exposure for the sky, one for the hive and put them together in PS. Or find a mid-point on exposure that would handle both somewhat.

Yeah...this is a difficult shot with the backlit. These little creatures do look aweful!! What are these??

Thanks for the info on exposure and back-lit subjects. :)
Those evil little critters are red wasps - very common here in East Texas - and they will raise a nasty welt if they sting you - hurts like hell too.;)
Thanks all!

Nice capture. I bet you approached these guys very gingerly.

Nice shot. Daring, but nice.
I can attest to the welt and the pain:
