I love it. Amazing photography. This is exactly what HDR is for, capturing the imagination. People would look at it and think, is that a photo or a painting?
I'm not qualified to critique technique, but as a fan of images, I think it's a winner.
Could you go into detail about your technique on this photo, from start to finish (including exposure settings, processing, etc.)?
I'm very impressed with it.
Edit: just to add. You've captured, in a sense, what Normal Rockwell was doing.
This picture could easily be in a Bass Pro Shop advertisment.

It's missing something. Ah, yes, a tumbler of scotch :)
Outstanding photograph! Great job.

Thank you all for the kind words. :D
Hey MikeFairbanks Lets see...
Canon 450D XSi, 18-55mm IS, Tripod
RAW
Mirror lock up
Timer On - 2 seconds
I spot metered for the brightest spot of the scene and the darkest spot of the scene, which gave me the tonal range of the image.
Camera @ Manual Mode
Aperture @ f/8.0
Exposure times for 7 images - 0.3 seconds, 0.6 sec., 1.3 sec., 2.5 sec., 5 sec., 10 sec., and 20 seconds.
Convertered RAW files to 16 bit tiffs in Digital Photo Pro
Batch processed the 16 bit tiffs to HDR and then tone mapped in Photomatix.
HPS, levels, desaturation and resize for web in PSPX2.
Thanks again

I just tried for an hour to duplicate that scene, and failed miserably (this was before reading your technique).
I have a similar spot in the guestroom with a ton of surf memorabilia, so I went upstairs and tried to duplicate what you did, but each HDR looked like a regular photograph no matter how I tweaked it.
All together I took 14 exposures, and tried combinations of 7, 5, 3, 2 and never found what I liked. They were all raw exposures.
Oh well.
Oddly, I showed my wife your picture and she said, "I don't like it." I was like, "Whaat???"
I said, "I know you don't like hunting, but that's not the point."
She said, "I don't like the way it looks."
Go figure. I think it's a fantastic example of HDR.
