I'm around 3/4 of the way through the 350 manual. According to the manual, the remote control RC-1, which I have already bought but haven't even taken out of the box yet, starts a 2 second delay remote operation. I thought the big difference between the rc-1 and rc-5 was that the rc-1 could be set for instantaneous or 2 sec. delay, yet I haven't yet found out how I would do anything other than the 2 sec. delay.

I bought the remote because I will be shooting dogs and cats, and I might have to stand away from the animal and still trigger the camera. I do want to be able to trigger an instant shutter. I also read about the remote switch, which appears to have the same functions, but is wired at a max of 2 feet. One question, is where is the remote switch connected to the camera?

The main question is what would be my best bet for remote operation with instant results. As an added bonus, a realistic trigger for the bulb setting would be good for when I shoot fireworks. So, of the various options, which is the most reliable and verstaile?

All remote cords i've had activated the shutter when you pushed the button. Plug it in, push the button, and see what happens.

IMHO, the wired remote switch is the best option for instant results. Using the wired remote switch is just like pressing the shutter. Hold it halfway to AF and then press full to release the shutter. If you're in continuous shooting mode and press-hold the switch, you will take a burst of shots.

On the Rebel 300D and 20D, the wired switch connects to the side of the camera. I haven't seen a 350D, but i bet it's located in the same area where the USB/firewire and external power ports are located. Look for a rubber door that you can open up.

I found the wireless remote best for when I wanted to be in the picture and I could just set up the camera stand in the frame and point the remote at it.

I have both. No need to run into place using the wireless.
