I saw this new face in the yard this evening. Just to be safe, I snapped a few pictures through the glass in the front door before I tried to sneak out and get a decent shot. You can guess the rest.

Wow, haven't seen him/her before in my neck of the woods. Nice capture, tupe.

LOL! I know what u mean. I use the same method. Take one picture every time i make one step closer. The last shot before my subject flies away, will normally be the best shot.

Quick shot! Looks like the bird already "saw" you from this shot...it's not going to be easy to sneak up...

The little downy woodpecker, OTOH, doesn't mind me being around. He was drilling on my house yesterday - I got within 5 feet of him (less than 2 meters) before he looked up and decided I was too close.

My first thought at work without my birdbook is some kind of Oreole (sp)? Maybe not. lol that happens to me a lot too. I have seen this guys cousin for the last few days at my house too (haven't looked him up either) ... Just wondering if he is moving through or here to stay?

Wow, he must be a regular visitor. Birds fly away if their radar detects me within 40 ft radius. Perhaps my appearance is not very animal friendly. :p

He does resemble a baltimore oriole. Towhees are on the list for this area, but I haven't seen any others this year. Since I started feeding them, I'm amazed at how many species are coming out of the trees!

Perhaps my appearance is not very animal friendly. :pHe's our best customer, though he's going to have to learn respect for the house rules (e.g., no pecking on the siding). The little downy is quite self-absorbed. I can open the door within 12 feet of him, get set and take his picture and he doesn't even flinch.
