Most weekends are good for me, but my photography skills are lacking. I have a 20D with decent lenses to go with it....probably been used a total of 30 times.

Sounds good to me I think
Botanic gardens would best be visited in spring.
How about
Mount Lofty
Cleland National Park
Morialta Falls
I'm not fussed really

hey forgive me for putting this here and breaking the flow, but i thought this would be the best spot as were all adelaide folk here on this particular thread...
just wanted to put the feelers out on this one:
i'm about to lease space in glenelg to set up a permanent studio. in order to help pay the rent i was hoping to rent it out on a needs basis when i am not using it. who here would be interested in casual studio space at $100 a session? you'd be getting the space, backdrop, floor (two massive sheets of MD40 = no more photoshopping scuff marks!) plus use of my d=lite 4's. it's the setup i've used to shoot all my glamour work at my site...
any takers at this stage?
charlieharper
28th of July 2009 (Tue), 12:09
Still to check dates........
Benon, I'll be more then interested in occasionally renting space...How long would you think a "session" would be ?

Ok, got a 20D a 70-200 f/4 L a 17-55 f/2.8 and a 60mm f2.8
I want a course to help me understand lighting/shutter speeds/aperture the use of filters, I would like someone to look at the shots I'm taking and criticise and advise. Also PP techniques. Certainly all this can be self taught, but there aren't enough hours in a day for me to do that.
Type of photography I'm interested in: architecture and motor vehicles people and glamour.
Meaning of life - good food, good wine, good company and of course a good woman.

You've got a good camera, good lenses and desire !!
Hey, you're just like me, all we need now is experience !!
Just one thing, for architecture you may find that you need a wider lens (10-22mm).
That's an issue I have with my kit, with the 1.6 crop factor, I don't really have a very wide lens.....
Might catch up at the meetup, or have you checked the Australian Mega-Workshop (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=730271) thread ?

One of the benefits of a forum meet-up will be getting to see and maybe try each others cameras and lenses. Should be plenty of time for chat and giving tips to others. Learning and experimenting will be a big part of the meet-up.

Desertraptors suggestion of MtLofty or Cleland sounds ideal for a first meet.
Morialta Falls, Deep Creek Cons Park, Monarto Zoo and Botanic Gardens can all be done later.
North Terrace is ideal for architecture shots too. Hindley or Rundle Streets for people. Glenelg foreshore for summer stuff.
Plenty of options for future trips.
Although most of my stuff is in outback/remote areas I still enjoy shooting the other genres :D - apart from people/studio/weddings.

Yup, 5Dmk1.

5D1 for IQ and FF
50D for reach
1D2 for AF and fps speed
so which is important to you?

I would use the;
1DmkII for sport, obviously with the AF and FPS
5DmkI is just a beautiful camera, FF goodness and amazing to use
50D Better AF then the 5D but not enough to get near the 1D.
I shot alot of people these days, but i do occasionally shoot some sport.
What would you all suggest?

I think the best compromise is surprisingly also the cheapest - 40D/50D
1Dmk1 for about $600 is a bargain if you arent planning on printing large photos.
So for about $1600 you could have a 40D and 1d1 :D

Although i was planning on going with one body, then sell my 70-200 to buy a 70-200L f4 IS with the extra money

We're getting off topic here but 2 bodies rocks! Less lens changing and playing with settings.
My 1D travels in its own bag with the 150-500 attached and ready to go.

If i were to get a 5D i would have a 24-105L on that and my 70-200 on my 400D
if i were to get a 1D/50D i would get the 70-200 on that and 17-50 on my 400D
Its such a tough chouse

I think Clealand would provide for a much more diverse group of subjects as Mick has stated. Lofty is only a few minutes further up the road.
I think Clealand was a $20 for entry and Lofty has a parking fee.
Maybe Clealand for the day and Lofty for the City lights on dusk?
Not sure I can stay till dusk though
